The 2025 Mazda CX-3 we hand over in Dubai is the all-wheel-drive version, and we bring it to your door inside one to two hours of booking. That AWD badge is the reason to read on. Most small crossovers in this price bracket drive the front wheels only, so a CX-3 that sends power to all four is the unusual one, and it changes how the car feels on a wet Sheikh Zayed Road or pulling out of a sandy car park edge. This page is for the renter weighing whether the grip and the polished cabin are worth picking over a cheaper front-driver. Our short answer: for one or two people who drive a lot and value how a car handles, yes. For a family hauling luggage, no.
Let's be clear about what AWD does and doesn't do here. It is not a desert tool. The CX-3 sits 155 mm off the ground, which is speed-bump and mall-ramp height, not dune height, so soft sand will still bog it down. What the system does give you is steadier traction in the rare Dubai downpour, more composure when you boot it out of a junction, and a touch more confidence on the loose grit you find at the edges of construction zones and unpaved lots. For a daily Dubai driver that's a quiet upgrade rather than a headline, but on a slick morning after rain you'll notice it.
The 2.0-litre engine makes 150 hp through a six-speed automatic. It's not fast, with 0 to 100 km/h taking around 9.7 seconds, but it's eager and it revs cleanly, and the AWD car puts that power down without scrabbling. On the E11 it cruises at 120 without strain and has just enough left to overtake.

This is the spec that decides your July mornings. The CX-3 has a small cabin, and that works in your favour when the car has been baking at 45 degrees. The air conditioning pulls a parked interior down quicker than any big SUV manages, because there's simply less air to cool. Open the doors for a few seconds to dump the worst of the heat, then let the front vents run, and it's comfortable inside a couple of minutes. There are no separate rear vents, but in a cabin this compact the cold air reaches the back seat anyway.
The AWD car carries a 44-litre tank and returns around 7.0 L/100km combined, a little thirstier than the front-wheel-drive version because it's hauling the extra hardware. In stop-start Marina traffic with the AC working flat out, expect the real figure to climb into the 8s. Even so, that tank covers most of a week of city errands and a couple of airport runs on a single fill. You won't be living at the petrol station. Salik tolls run on your account while you've got the car, and any RTA fines on the road come back to you, so drive it as if it's yours.
Here's where honesty matters. The CX-3 holds 350 litres behind the rear seats, which in real terms is one large suitcase plus a soft bag, not two big hard cases side by side. A couple flying into DXB with a check-in bag each can make it work, though you may end up resting one bag on the back seat. Fold the 60/40 rear bench and the space opens to around 1,260 litres, enough for a flat-pack run or one big shop.
The rear seat itself is tight. Two adults fit for a short hop, but legroom behind a tall driver is mean, and three across is a squeeze nobody enjoys for long. If your week is two people with the occasional passenger, none of this matters. If it's four adults moving around the city every day, you'll feel it fast.
At 4275 mm long the CX-3 is one of the easier cars to park in Dubai. Tight multi-storey bays, the steep Marina ramps, U-turns on a busy road, it takes all of it without fuss, and the visibility out the front is good. After a week wrestling a full-size SUV around mall car parks, this feels like a holiday.
Rent the 2025 CX-3 if you're one or two people who want a small crossover that drives well, parks anywhere, and has the extra security of all-wheel grip for those few slippery mornings. It's well made, it looks sharp, and the AWD gives it an edge most rivals at this size don't have. Just go in clear about the boot and the back seat. If you're carrying four adults or arriving with a stack of luggage, this is the wrong size, and a CX-5 or a larger crossover will serve you better. For couples and solo drivers who care how a car feels, it's an easy one to recommend.
