We deliver the Kia Sportage 2025 across Dubai in one to two hours, and what turns up is the current-generation car: the bold redesign with one of the biggest boots in the compact SUV class. It runs the 2.0-litre petrol making 150 hp through an automatic, front-wheel drive, five seats. Our take is simple. For a family who want the newest cabin, genuine cargo room and an easy, comfortable drive for a Dubai week, this is the Sportage to book. The 2.0 engine is tuned for calm rather than pace, so if you crave a quick SUV, look higher up the range. This page settles whether the new car's mix of space and comfort fits your week.
The current Sportage looks nothing like the car it replaced, and the change is more than skin deep. The cabin steps up a long way: a wide curved screen, cleaner controls and better materials on the surfaces your hands meet. Sit in it after an older compact SUV and the difference reads instantly. The driving position is high and commanding, the layout is modern without being fiddly, and the whole thing feels a class above the rate.
It's a five-seater, and the space is used well. Four adults sit without trading knee room, the back bench takes three across for shorter hops, and the doors open wide so a child seat goes in without a fight. For six or seven people, or three child seats abreast, this isn't the car and you'd want a proper seven-seater. For a couple plus two or three kids, the room is generous.

This is where the new Sportage earns its keep. At roughly 587 litres with the rear seats up, the cargo bay is among the largest in the compact class, and it swallows real luggage rather than airport carry-ons. Two big hard cases, a couple of soft bags and a stroller go in with all the seats in place, which covers a family-of-four run to DXB without anyone holding a bag on their lap.
Fold the rear seats and the floor opens into a long, near-flat hold for a mall haul, flat-pack furniture or a fortnight of supplies. For a family settling in or buying in bulk, that space is the difference between one trip and three.
Cooling is a strong point on the new car. The cabin seals up tight and the front vents pull a baking, sun-parked interior down fast, which is exactly what you need climbing in at 45 degrees after the Sportage has sat out in July. There are rear vents, so children in the back aren't left to roast while the front gets comfortable first. On the hottest afternoons that detail matters more than any screen on the dash.
The 2.0-litre petrol makes 150 hp, and it's tuned for ease rather than urgency. Around town that suits the car: light throttle, effortless parking-lot crawling, more than enough for the school run and the mall trip. Push it on the open road and the character shows. This is a tall, heavy SUV with a naturally aspirated engine, so it gathers speed steadily, and overtaking on Sheikh Zayed Road wants a little forward planning rather than a stab of the pedal. At a 120 cruise on the E11 it's quiet and stable. For the way most renters drive here, the 2.0 does everything the week asks.
At 4.66 metres the new Sportage is longer than the car it replaced, so it's a mid-size footprint to thread through Dubai. Multi-storey bays and Marina ramps are manageable, but you'll use the reversing camera in the tightest spots and take U-turns with a touch more care. The 181 mm of ground clearance clears speed bumps and mall ramps cleanly. It's front-wheel drive, so it's a road SUV through and through. Fine for everything a normal Dubai week involves, but leave soft sand and dune tracks to a dedicated 4x4.
The roughly 54-litre tank and the relaxed engine keep you off the forecourt. Expect around 8 litres per 100 km in mixed city and highway driving, a little more in pure stop-start heat with the AC working hard, which gives comfortably more than 600 km on a fill. A typical week of errands plus a couple of airport runs is one or two stops, and with petrol cheap here the running cost stays low.
Two Dubai rules to keep in mind. Salik tolls pass to you as the renter at each gate, and any RTA fine during the rental is yours, so watch the limits. Under-fours need a child seat by law, and the wide rear doors make one easy to fit.
Rent the Sportage 2025 if you want the current car's modern cabin, a class-leading boot and a comfortable, easy drive for a family week, without stepping up to a full-size SUV. The 2.0-litre engine is plenty for the city and honest on the highway, and the cargo room is where this car justifies its rate.
Size up to a seven-seater if you regularly carry six or more, or three child seats side by side. Drop to a hatchback if it's just one or two of you and you'd rather have the easiest parking and the lowest fuel bill. And if you want a genuinely quick SUV, this engine isn't it, so look further up the range. For a family who value space and comfort, the new Sportage is a strong week on the road.
