Kia Sportage 2023 - start from 192 AED / day

Rent a Kia Sportage 2023 in Dubai and you're driving a car built on the same Hyundai-Kia platform as the Tucson, sharing the identical 2.0-litre engine, six-speed automatic and front-wheel-drive layout under the skin. What Kia changed is everything you actually notice from the driver's seat: the split-headlight nose, the twin curved dash screens, and proportions that read newer than its Hyundai relative parked next to it on the same forecourt. We get this Sportage to your door in one to two hours, no counter visit needed. This page settles what that shared engineering actually buys you, and where the styling difference stops mattering to how the car rents.

Engine, gearbox and what the badge doesn't change

Under the hood is a naturally aspirated 2.0-litre four making around 155 hp and 192 Nm, sent through a six-speed automatic to the front wheels only. That's the same MPI engine and gearbox pairing Hyundai bolts into the equivalent Tucson trim, so the two badges pull away, brake and settle onto Sheikh Zayed Road in much the same way. It's composed through roundabouts, unhurried in stop-start traffic, and steady once you're cruising at the limit. It isn't the engine you'd reach for to snatch a gap in traffic, and loaded with four adults and a boot of luggage for an airport run, you'll want to plan the overtake rather than force it.

The trade-off is a sensible one for a rental fleet. The naturally aspirated 2.0 runs on regular petrol, doesn't ask for anything premium, and skips the turbo lag some smaller downsized engines show off the line around town. Kia also sells this generation of Sportage with a turbocharged, all-wheel-drive engine on higher grades, but that's a different car with a different running cost, and it isn't what you're renting here. Pick the Sportage over the Tucson on this exact powertrain and you gain nothing mechanically and lose nothing either. It's the same drivetrain wearing sharper metal.

What fits in the boot, and who fits in the back seat

With the rear seats up the boot holds 543 litres, enough for two large cases and a couple of soft bags on a DXB or DWC pickup without folding anything down. Drop the rear bench and the load area opens up to somewhere around 1,780 litres, enough for flatpack furniture or a weekly shop that fills more than one trolley. That figure sits within a few litres of the Tucson's own boot in this generation, so luggage capacity genuinely isn't the deciding factor between the two.

The back seat takes two adults properly and holds a third only for a short hop between the mall and home. This is the long-wheelbase Sportage Kia builds for the GCC, 4.66 metres long and 1.87 metres wide, noticeably bigger than the shorter body sold in Europe and Korea, so a narrow tower bay in Marina or a tight basement level in JLT deserves a glance in the mirrors before you commit to the space. Ground clearance of 181 mm clears the sharper speed bumps around villa compounds and steep mall ramps without a scrape. It's still a front-wheel-drive SUV riding on road tyres, so leave Hatta's tracks and any soft sand to something built for them.

Fuel, Salik and how fast the cabin cools

Official combined fuel economy sits around 7.7 to 8 litres per 100 km, and Dubai's stop-start traffic with the AC running most of the day pushes real-world consumption closer to 10 or 11. Against the 54-litre tank that works out to a realistic range of 500 to 550 km before the fuel light comes on, so most weeks mean a single stop at the pump. This car's policy allows 250 km a day, comfortable for ordinary city driving, and anything past that is charged at AED 0.5 per extra kilometre, gentle enough that a longer drive to Al Ain doesn't need much planning. Salik tolls and any RTA fines during the rental fall to the renter, standard for the class, and you'll need to be at least 25 to take the keys, higher than a few rivals that hand them over from 21.

The cabin doesn't stay hot for long once you climb back in. Front vents pull hard from the first minute of driving, and a Sportage left in an open lot at 45 degrees feels normal again within a couple of minutes on the move. Rear-vent provision isn't confirmed across every grade, so don't assume the back seat gets its own airflow on a longer family trip without checking first, and parking in shade beats leaving the AC to undo an hour of direct sun on its own.

Who this Sportage fits, and who should look elsewhere

Rent this Sportage 2023 if the styling and the dual-screen dash are what's tipping the decision against the Tucson, and you want a compact SUV that looks and feels newer than most of the segment while covering ordinary Dubai driving: weekday drop-offs, weekend mall parking, the occasional airport run. Mechanically you're getting the same low-drama engine and gearbox either badge offers, so there's little to lose choosing on looks alone.

Size down if it's just you or a couple running light errands on a tight budget. A Seltos or a Picanto does that job for less rent and less fuel, and it's easier to place in a packed basement. Size up if six or seven people need seats, since this is a five-seater regardless of how the rear bench folds, or if the week includes soft sand or a run out to Hatta, because the front-wheel-drive 2.0 belongs on tarmac. And if the badge genuinely doesn't matter to you, check whether the Tucson is cheaper or more available that week. On a shared platform like this one, price and timing should make the call, not the spec sheet.
