Kia Sorento 2022 - start from 300 AED / day

A seven-seat SUV that still slots into a mall basement bay without a three-point shuffle is rarer than it should be, and that's the case for renting the Kia Sorento 2022 in Dubai. We bring it to your door, usually inside 1 to 2 hours, so you skip the rental desk entirely. Under the bonnet is a 2.5-litre four-cylinder making 191 hp through an 8-speed automatic and all-wheel drive, which is the sensible end of the seven-seater market: enough pace for the school run and the airport, without the thirst of a big V6. The question this page settles is whether a four-cylinder seven-seater is the right call for your week, and where the third row stops being a real seat.

Parking and city size

At 4801 mm long and 1900 mm wide, this is a genuine midsize SUV, so don't expect to fling it into any gap. The older Marina towers and some mall basements have bays that need a careful line, and a tight multi-storey ramp rewards a slow approach. What helps is the high seating position and the standard parking sensors and reversing camera, which take the guesswork out of reversing into a snug spot. The 175 mm of ground clearance is the other half of the city story. It clears Dubai's speed bumps and the lip on mall entrances without scraping, and it sits you high enough to read six lanes of Sheikh Zayed Road traffic at a glance.

The engine, and what to expect from it

A 2.5-litre four with 191 hp won't pin you back the way a V6 does, and you shouldn't rent it expecting that. What it gives you instead is an honest, unstressed family engine. Merging onto the E11 with a couple of passengers is easy, and the 8-speed auto keeps things smooth and quiet at a 120 cruise. Load it with seven people and a full boot and you'll notice the climbs and the overtakes ask a bit more of it, so plan your moves on the Hatta road rather than darting out at the last second. For the day-to-day mix of city errands and the occasional run to Abu Dhabi, the engine does the job without fuss.

All-wheel drive comes standard, which is worth having when the winter rains turn a ramp slick or you take a graded track off the blacktop. It isn't a dune machine, so leave soft sand to a proper off-roader. For tarmac and light gravel, the AWD is exactly the right amount of grip for a family car.

Seats, the third row, and luggage

Be honest with yourself about how many people you're really carrying. The first two rows are the comfortable part: two adults up front have room to spare, and the second row is wide enough for three kids or for adults to stretch on a long airport run. The third row is a kids-and-short-hops affair. Two children are happy back there, but two grown adults folded in for the full run to DXB will be counting the minutes.

Luggage runs on the same logic. With all three rows up you've got room for a few soft bags and the weekly shop, not a stack of hard cases. Fold the third row flat, which is how most families will run it daily, and the load space opens up properly, enough for a holiday's worth of suitcases. If you genuinely need seven seats and a full set of cases at the same time, the maths doesn't work and you should size up to a Palisade.

Fuel, Salik, and running cost

This is where the four-cylinder earns its keep. The 67-litre tank and a real-world city figure around 9 to 10 km/L mean a normal week of Dubai driving needs one fill, maybe a top-up if you're doing daily airport runs with a full load. That's a clear saving over the V6 Sorento, which drinks noticeably more for power you may not use. Range works out to roughly 650 to 710 km depending on how much open road you cover, so a Dubai to Abu Dhabi return on one tank is comfortable.

Two costs fall to you before you drive. Salik tolls are charged each time you pass a gate, and any RTA fines during the rental pass to the renter, so the E11 speed cameras are your responsibility. Seatbelts are mandatory in every seat, including the third row, and children under four need a child seat, which we can fit on request.

Heat, AC, and the parked-cabin problem

A cabin this size, left in a mall car park at 45 degrees, gets brutally hot, and the AC has real work to do. The first couple of minutes after you climb in are warm while the system clears the heat, so crack the windows for ten seconds before you set off and it cools faster. The payoff is rear vents that actually reach the second and third rows, which is what keeps kids in the back comfortable on a school run. Once it's cold, it holds even in stop-and-go Marina traffic.

Who should rent it, and who shouldn't

Rent the Sorento 2022 if you want a practical seven-seater with standard all-wheel drive and a fuel bill that won't sting, and you're a family of four to six who'll use two rows daily and the third for kids or the carpool. The four-cylinder is the smart pick when you don't need V6 punch and you'd rather not pay for it at the pump.

Step up to the V6 Sorento if you regularly carry a full load up to highway speed and want effortless overtaking. Move to a Palisade if you genuinely carry seven adults plus luggage at once. And if it's just two of you running errands, a five-seat crossover saves you fuel and seats you'll never touch. For the everyday Dubai family, this is the sensible middle of the range.
