Most seven-seat SUVs ask you to choose between space and a fuel bill that hurts, and the Kia Sorento 2022 is our answer to people who refuse to pick. You rent it in Dubai with a four-cylinder under the bonnet instead of a thirsty V6, so a week of school runs, mall trips and the odd airport pickup doesn't drain a tank every two days. We hand it over with 250 km a day included, which is more daily mileage than most rentals here allow. What this page settles is whether the smaller engine is enough for your week, and exactly where the third row stops being a real seat.
The four-cylinder is the whole reason to rent this Sorento over a bigger-engined seven-seater. The 68-litre tank paired with a 2.5-litre petrol means real-world city driving sits around 9 to 10 km per litre, more on the highway and less when you load all seven seats with the AC working hard. For a normal Dubai week of errands and a couple of airport runs, that's one fill, maybe a top-up before you return it. A V6 of this size would have you back at the pump noticeably sooner for power most renters never actually use.
Two costs sit outside the fuel and fall to you. Salik tolls are billed each time you pass a gate, and any RTA fines during the rental pass to the renter, so watch the average-speed cameras on the E11.

A 2.5-litre four with 179 hp isn't fast, and you shouldn't rent it expecting to be pinned to your seat. What it gives you is an unstressed, honest family engine. With a couple of people aboard it merges onto Sheikh Zayed Road without drama, and the 8-speed auto stays smooth and quiet at a 120 cruise. Load it with seven and a full boot and the climbs and overtakes ask more of it, so plan your moves on the Hatta road rather than darting out late. For the everyday mix of city driving and the occasional inter-emirate trip, it does the job.
All-wheel drive comes as standard, which earns its keep when winter rain slicks a ramp or you turn onto a graded track. It's not built for soft sand, so leave the dunes to a proper off-roader.
Be honest about how many people you're really carrying. The first two rows are the comfortable part. Two adults up front have room to spare, and the second row seats three kids or lets adults stretch on a long airport run. The third row is a kids-and-short-hops affair: two children are happy back there, but two grown adults wedged in for the full run to DXB will be counting the minutes.
Luggage follows the same logic. With all three rows up you get room for a few soft bags and the weekly shop, around 370 litres, not a stack of hard cases. Fold the third row flat, which is how most families run it daily, and the load space opens right up for a holiday's worth of suitcases. If you genuinely need seven seats and a full set of cases at once, the maths doesn't work and you should size up to a Palisade.
At 4801 mm long and 1905 wide, this is a true midsize SUV, so don't expect to fling it into any gap. Older Marina tower bays and some mall basements need a careful line, and a tight multi-storey ramp rewards a slow approach. The high seating position plus the standard sensors and reversing camera take the guesswork out of backing into a snug spot. The 178 mm of clearance handles Dubai's speed bumps and mall-entrance lips without scraping, and sits you high enough to read six lanes of traffic at a glance.
A cabin this size, left in a mall lot at 45 degrees, gets brutally hot, and the AC has real work to do. The first minute or two after you climb in are warm while the system clears the heat, so crack the windows for ten seconds before you set off and it cools faster. The payoff is rear vents that reach the second and third rows, which is what keeps kids comfortable on a school run. Once it's cold, it holds even in stop-and-go Marina traffic. Child seats are required for under-fours and we can fit one on request.
Rent the Sorento 2022 if you want a practical seven-seater with standard all-wheel drive and a fuel bill that won't sting, and you're a family of four to six who'll use two rows daily and the third for kids or the carpool. The four-cylinder is the smart pick when you don't need V6 punch and would rather not pay for it at the pump.
Move to a Palisade if you genuinely carry seven adults plus luggage at the same time, where the third row and boot are built for it. If it's just two of you running errands, a five-seat crossover saves you fuel and seats you'll never touch. For the everyday Dubai family who needs seven seats some of the time but not all of it, this is the sensible middle of the range.
