Kia Sonet 2025 - start from 171 AED / day

Renting the smallest, cheapest crossover Kia makes in Dubai usually comes down to one question: is the extra cost over a plain hatchback worth a higher seat and a bit more presence? We hand over the Kia Sonet 2025 to people who want exactly that, and we take payment however suits you on delivery, whether that's a card, cash, or Apple Pay at the door. The Sonet is a five-seat subcompact SUV that's easy to live with in the city and honest about its limits. This page is about who it actually fits, and who should step up to a Seltos instead.

What you're renting

The Sonet sits at the bottom of Kia's crossover range, which is the point. You get the raised seating position and the higher view over traffic that people want from an SUV, in a body short enough to slot into car-park bays that defeat bigger machines. The engine is a 1.5-litre petrol making 115 horsepower, sent to the front wheels through an automatic. It's a relaxed performer, not a quick one. Around town it's smooth and easy, and on Sheikh Zayed Road it'll hold 120 without drama, but ask it to overtake two lanes of traffic on the E11 and you'll notice the engine working for it.

Does my luggage fit

The boot holds 385 litres, which is generous for the class and the Sonet's real advantage over a regular hatch. Two adults flying out of DXB for a week can get a large case and a cabin bag in with room left over. Push it to a couple plus two kids and a full holiday's worth of bags, and you'll be folding part of the rear seat or stacking soft bags on the back row. For the airport run with two or three people it's comfortable. For a family of five with a week of luggage, the maths gets tight, and that's the line where I'd point you at the Seltos.

Parking, ramps and speed bumps

This is where the Sonet earns its rental. At just under four metres long it's one of the easier crossovers to thread into a Marina tower bay or a packed mall basement, and the high seat makes judging the corners simpler than in a low hatch. The 205 mm of ground clearance is the other quiet benefit. Dubai's speed bumps are tall and the ramps into older buildings can be steep, and the Sonet clears them without the scrape and wince you get in a low car. You're not going off-road in a front-drive crossover, but for kerbs, bumps and sandy car-park edges it has the height to feel unbothered.

Heat and the cabin

The cooling matters more than any spec when the car has sat in 45-degree sun all afternoon. The Sonet's AC is strong for a small cabin, and that small cabin is the help here: there's less air to chill, so the front vents bring the temperature down quickly once you get moving. Rear passengers get their own vents, which is worth knowing if you're carrying kids in the back rather than just front-seat commuters. Park in shade when you can, and the first few minutes are far less of an ordeal than they are in a big seven-seater.

Fuel, range and the running cost

With a 45-litre tank and combined economy around 7.2 L/100km, a full tank covers a long way, and most renters doing the school run, mall trips and the odd airport drop will go most of a week between fills. Mixed Dubai driving, with the AC on hard and stop-start traffic, will pull that figure up, so treat the official number as a best case rather than a promise. Even so, the running cost is low, which is most of the reason to rent at this end of the range.

Costs that land on you

A few Dubai rules are worth stating plainly. Salik tolls are charged to you each time you pass a gantry, and on a busy route like Sheikh Zayed Road that adds up over a week. Any RTA fine from a speed camera or parking ticket passes to the renter too, so drive to the limits. Seat belts are required in every seat, and children under four need a proper child seat, which we can fit on request.

Who should rent it, and who shouldn't

Rent the Sonet if you're a single driver, a couple, or a small family who wants a higher seat and easy parking without paying for a bigger SUV. It's the cheapest sensible crossover automatic we keep, it slots into tight bays, and it shrugs off the speed bumps that scrape lower cars. Skip it if you're regularly carrying four or five adults with full luggage, or if you want real overtaking punch on the highway. For either of those, the Seltos gives you the space and the stronger engine, and it's the smarter spend. For everything most city renters actually do, the Sonet is enough car.
