Park a Kia Sonet 2025 next to a sedan and the first thing you notice is how little kerb it eats. We hand this subcompact SUV over across Dubai with the no-deposit option, so you can drive off without a chunk of money locked up on a card. The reason to book it isn't badge or power. It's the packaging. Kia has taken a footprint barely longer than a city hatch and carved out a 392-litre boot, a tall driving position and a cabin that swallows more than the outside suggests. That trick, small on the street and bigger than it looks from the seat, is what this page is about.
At 4,110 mm long and 1,790 mm wide, the Sonet slots into bays that make a Creta driver circle the floor twice. Marina towers, the older mall car parks with the squeezed pillars, a kerbside gap on a side street in Jumeirah, the Sonet drops into all of them without the breath-holding. You sit higher than in a hatchback, so judging the corners is easy, and the turning circle is tight enough for a confident U-turn where a bigger SUV needs a three-point shuffle.
Ground clearance is 205 mm, which matters more here than it sounds. Dubai's speed bumps come in every height, and ramp lips into basement parking can scrape a low car. The Sonet rides over all of it flat. That clearance plus the raised seat is the honest appeal of a small SUV over a small hatch: same parking ease, none of the scraping.
The 392 litres behind the rear seats is the number that earns the SUV label. For a car this size, that's generous. Two large suitcases stand up in there with a soft bag wedged alongside, which covers an airport pickup for a couple or a family weekend of shopping. A DXB or DWC run with four people and four big cases is where it tips over: you'll be folding part of the rear bench, and then someone's knees are against luggage. Drop the seats and the load floor opens right up for flat-pack runs or a bike.
For two adults and a week of errands, it's more than enough. For four adults living out of suitcases, this is the moment to size up.

The 1.5-litre makes 115 hp and pulls to 100 km/h in 11.8 seconds, which is fine and no more than that. Around town it feels alert, light to steer, easy to thread through traffic. Get it onto Sheikh Zayed Road and the picture is honest: it cruises happily at the 100 to 120 limit, but an overtake that needs a sudden 40 km/h on top takes planning, not a stab of the throttle. It's a city and suburb car that does the highway, not a highway car. If most of your week is E11 mileage at speed, a torquier sedan will feel less worked.
On heat, a black cabin in a July car park bakes fast, but a small cabin cools fast too. The front vents hit hard and pull the space from oven to comfortable in a few minutes, and there are rear vents so back-seat passengers aren't left out. Park in shade when you can and those first thirty seconds are far kinder.
This is where the Sonet quietly pays you back. At 6.2 L/100km the 45-litre tank stretches to roughly 725 km, so a normal week of school runs, mall trips and the odd airport hop goes by on a single fill or close to it. You're not planning your week around the petrol station. For a renter watching the daily number, low fuel use is the real saving that adds up over seven days, more than the headline rate does.
Two Dubai costs sit with you, not us. Salik tolls are billed to the renter, and any RTA fine during the rental passes to you as well. Belts are mandatory in every seat. None of it is unusual, it's just worth knowing the meter is yours once the keys are handed over.
Rent the Sonet 2025 if you're one or two people, maybe with a kid or two, doing mostly city and suburb driving and you want an SUV view and an easy-to-park car without an SUV fuel bill. It's the sweet spot of small-but-clever: real boot, high seat, tiny parking footprint, light on petrol.
Look past it in two cases. If you regularly carry four adults with full luggage, the rear and the boot are tight together, and a Creta or a mid-size sedan gives you the room. And if your week is mostly fast highway miles with frequent overtakes, the 1.5 front-driver feels modest up there, and something with more pull will be the calmer drive. For everything in between, which is most of Dubai life, the Sonet does more than its size has any right to.
