Renting a Kia Sonet 2023 in Dubai gets you a small, proven SUV without the usual hold on your card, because we offer it with a no-deposit option that keeps your week simple. We hand the Sonet over across the city, and it does one job well: it gives a solo driver or a couple a higher seat, an easy car to park, and running costs that stay low. This is the older model year at a softer rate, so if you want a dependable city crossover that just works rather than the newest screen and kit, this is the sensible pick. It rents from us with a debit card and pay-on-delivery, and it suits short airport hops as much as daily errands.
The 2023 Sonet is the same car the newer years built on, minus the latest trim updates, which is exactly why it rents cheaper. You're not losing anything that matters for a week of driving. It's a 1.5-litre automatic with front-wheel drive, 115 horsepower, and five seats. The gearbox is smooth in traffic, so you spend your week driving rather than thinking about the car.
What you give up over a 2024 or 2025 Sonet is mostly cabin tech and a few cosmetic touches. If you care about the freshest infotainment, look at one of the later years. If you want a car that starts, cools, parks, and gets you there for less, the 2023 is the one I'd put you in.
| Spec | Kia Sonet 2023 |
|---|---|
| Class / body | Economy SUV |
| Engine | 1.5-litre |
| Power | 115 hp |
| Transmission | Automatic |
| Drive | Front-wheel drive |
| Seats | 5 |
| Fuel tank | 45 litres |
| Fuel economy | about 6.0 L/100km |
| Range | roughly 750 km per tank |
| Dimensions (L x W x H) | 3995 x 1790 x 1642 mm |
| Ground clearance | 205 mm |
This is where the Sonet earns its keep. At just under four metres long, it slots into the tight bays in older Marina towers and mall basements that defeat bigger SUVs. U-turns on Jumeirah Beach Road take one swing, not three. Visibility is good from the raised seat, and the turning circle is tight enough that reversing into a packed Dubai Mall level feels routine rather than stressful.
The 205 mm of ground clearance is the quiet advantage. Dubai is full of aggressive speed bumps in residential areas and steep mall ramps in the Marina and Downtown, and the Sonet clears them without the scrape you get from a low sedan. You sit higher than you would in a Yaris or a Rio, which helps in traffic and on multi-storey ramps alike.
For a couple, yes. The boot takes one large suitcase plus a soft bag or a couple of cabin cases comfortably, which covers a week for two people or a short trip. Fold the rear seats and you have proper room for a flat-pack run or a few weeks' worth of shopping.
Where it gets tight is four adults with full airport luggage. The cabin is fine for two up front and two children behind, but a fourth grown adult plus their cases is asking a lot of a car this size. If that's your group, this is the moment to size up.
Dubai summers push past 45 degrees, and a car that's been parked in the sun turns into an oven. The Sonet's small cabin is an asset here. There's less air to cool, so the AC pulls the temperature down faster than it would in a big SUV. Give it a few minutes with the fan high after a long park and the front vents do their job well. Back-seat passengers get usable airflow from the front, though don't expect the dedicated rear climate of a larger car. For one or two people up front, it stays comfortable through a Dubai August.
Around town the Sonet is in its element. The 1.5 has enough pull for traffic-light sprints and merging, and short hops to DXB or out to DWC are easy, with the small footprint making the terminal drop-off lanes painless.
Be honest with yourself about the highway, though. On Sheikh Zayed Road and the E11 it cruises fine at the limit, but it's front-wheel drive with modest power, so overtaking at speed needs planning and it doesn't feel as planted above 120 as a heavier car. For daily city use and the occasional highway stretch it's capable. If most of your week is long, fast inter-emirate driving, you'll want something with more grunt.
You'll cover Salik tolls yourself, and any RTA fines during your rental pass to you, so keep an eye on the speed cameras on the E11. Seat belts are required in every seat.
The 45-litre tank and roughly 6.0 L/100km in mixed city driving give you around 750 km on a fill. In practice that means most renters fill up once, maybe twice, across a normal Dubai week. Petrol here is cheap, so the running cost on the Sonet is about as low as a comfortable automatic SUV gets, and that low cost is half the reason to pick the older year.
Rent the Sonet 2023 if you're one or two people who want a higher driving position, a car that's genuinely easy to park, and a low bill for a week of city errands and the odd airport run. For that brief it's hard to beat at this rate, and the no-deposit option makes booking it painless.
Skip it if you're a family of four or five with full luggage, or if your week is mostly fast highway miles. In either case, step up to a Kia Creta. You get more cabin room, a bigger boot, and a car that feels more settled at speed, which is exactly what the Sonet trades away to stay small and cheap.
