The boot is better than the car's size suggests. At 392 litres with the seats up it takes one large suitcase and a soft bag for a DXB or DWC run, which is enough for a couple travelling light. The front vents blow hard and cold within a few minutes of getting back in.

The back row is where it's slower. Anyone sitting behind relies mostly on cold air reaching them from the front, so on the hottest days a full rear seat takes longer to settle than the front does. With one or two people aboard that's a non-issue. Park in shade where you can and it stops being a talking point at all. The cabin is plain and hard-wearing, which is what this price buys, but the controls are simple and it's easy to live with for a week or a month.

Who should rent it, who should size up

Rent the Sonet 2022 if you're one or two people who want the raised seat and SUV shape of a Kia without paying for a bigger one.
