Want a small crossover that feels a class above for the rate it rents at? The Kia Seltos 2024 is the one we hand over most when someone wants screens and kit without paying for a big SUV, and we deliver it to your door in Dubai inside 1 to 2 hours. This is a compact crossover that leans on its cabin tech: a wide touchscreen, proper digital dials, full smartphone mirroring, and the raised seating that makes city driving easier. The argument for this page is simple. If you want a well-kitted five-seater for a week of mixed Dubai driving, the Seltos punches above its size. Need three rows or serious cargo, and you should size up.
The Seltos reads richer inside than its footprint suggests. You sit high, the dashboard is dominated by a clean touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the driver gets a digital instrument cluster rather than the basic analogue dials you find on cheaper rentals in this bracket. Cruise control, a reverse camera, and parking sensors all earn their keep, which I'll come back to.
The engine is the 1.5 litre petrol making 123 hp through an automatic gearbox, front-wheel drive. It's honest, not fast. Nought to 100 takes about 12.2 seconds, so overtaking on Sheikh Zayed Road needs a bit of planning rather than a stab of the throttle. Around town it's smooth and quiet, which is where most renters spend their time anyway.

A car that's baked in mall parking through a 45C afternoon is the real test, and the Seltos passes it well enough. The front vents are strong and the cabin isn't huge, so the air pulls the temperature down faster than it would in a seven-seater. Give it a couple of minutes with the fan up before you load kids in. There are rear vents too, which matters on a summer airport run with passengers in the back.
The back seat takes two child seats across with room to buckle, and three adults will sit for a short hop but won't thank you for an hour on the E11. Child seats are required for under-fours here, and belts are mandatory in every seat.
The boot is 433 litres, generous for a compact crossover. Two large cases stand up back there with a soft bag on top, so a couple flying in to DXB or DWC for the week are covered. Fold the rear seats and it opens right up for a flat-pack pickup. Where it gets tight is four adults plus four full suitcases. That's the line where I'd move you to a mid-size SUV. For two or three people with normal luggage, the Seltos has it handled.
This is where the kit pays off. Marina towers and older mall car parks have steep ramps and narrow bays, and the Seltos is short enough to thread them without drama. The reverse camera and sensors make the tight reverse-bay parking that defines Dubai garages genuinely easy. Ground clearance is 200 mm, so speed bumps in residential blocks and the lip on mall ramps clear cleanly. You won't scrape it on a Marina down-ramp the way you would in a low sedan.
The 50 litre tank with the 1.5 petrol gives real-world economy of roughly 11 to 12 km per litre in Dubai's stop-and-go traffic, more on an open highway run. In practice that's one fill covering most of a week of city driving, with maybe a single top-up if you're doing daily long commutes or airport laps. The included distance is 250 km per day and extra kilometres run at 1 AED each, so a typical week of errands and the odd Abu Dhabi day trip stays comfortably inside it.
Salik tolls are billed to you as the renter, and any RTA fines pass through too, so keep to the limits and the toll gates won't surprise you at return.
On Sheikh Zayed Road the Seltos cruises happily at 100 to 120, settled, with the raised seating giving you a good view over traffic. Past that the 1.5 starts to feel its size, and overtaking a truck uphill takes commitment. For DXB and DWC runs it's quiet and composed, and the high driving position takes the stress out of merging. Just don't expect it to feel quick. It's a comfortable cruiser, not a fast one.
Rent the Seltos 2024 if you want a tech-rich compact crossover for one to four people across a week of Dubai driving, with the screens, camera, and raised seating that make city life easier. It's the sweet spot for couples, small families, and anyone who wants SUV poise without SUV bulk.
Size up to a mid-size or full SUV if you're carrying four adults with full airport luggage, need a third row, or want real pace for long highway hauls. Size down to a hatchback if it's just solo city errands and you want the cheapest sensible automatic. For most people landing in Dubai for a week, the Seltos is the one I'd put you in.
