Caught between a cheap hatch and a big SUV for your Dubai week? The Kia Seltos 2023 is the middle answer most renters actually want, and we hand it over with 250 km a day included and doorstep delivery in one to two hours. It's a compact crossover that sits higher than a hatch, swallows a real shop, and still parks in the bays a Tucson circles past. We rent it across the city for an economy rate, and the case for it is the size: one sensible car that covers errands, the school run and the odd airport trip without being too much or too little. For a couple or a small family, that's usually the right call.
This is the question the Seltos answers best. A Picanto or Rio is cheaper and parks even smaller, but you sit low and the boot fills fast with a family's gear. A Tucson or Creta gives you more space and a nicer cabin, but you pay for it and you fight for parking. The Seltos lands in between: tall enough to see over traffic, short enough at 4370 mm to thread Marina ramps and mall spirals, and roomy enough that two adults and two kids plus a week's luggage fit without a plan. For a fourth adult with full airport cases every day, size up. For everything short of that, this is the easy middle.

The 250 km daily allowance is generous, and the Seltos is easy enough on fuel to use it without thinking about the gauge. Real Dubai economy on the 1.6 lands around 10 to 12 km/L in mixed city driving, more on a highway-heavy day and less crawling Business Bay at rush hour. The 50-litre tank turns that into a comfortable few hundred kilometres between fills. For a normal week of errands and a couple of airport runs, expect one fuel stop, maybe two. Petrol is cheap here, so even the busier weeks barely dent the budget.
The 1.6 with 123 hp is a relaxed engine, no turbo and no drive-mode theatre. It pulls away from lights and merges fine, and around town it never feels short of breath. Ask it to overtake two cars at once at 120 on the E11 and you'll feel it gather itself first. It's a calm commuter that cruises the highway happily, not a quick one, and the 190 mm of clearance means Dubai's speed bumps and steep mall ramps pass underneath without a scrape.
The cabin is plain next to a Creta or a pricier crossover. You get the basics done well, an 8-inch screen, a clear layout, decent storage, but the materials are honest budget-SUV plastics rather than soft-touch luxury. If you want the inside to feel special, this isn't the car. If you want everything to fall to hand over a week, it delivers.
The 433-litre boot is genuinely useful for the class. Two large suitcases stand upright with space left for soft bags, which covers a DXB pickup for a couple or a family of four travelling light. Push the rear seats down and you get a flat-ish floor for a flat-pack run or a week's mall hauls. The limit, as with most cars this size, is people and luggage at once. Four adults with four big cases is the line where a midsize SUV earns its rate over this one.
Cabin cooling matters more than any spec sheet figure in June. Park the Seltos in open sun and it bakes like every car here, but the AC pulls it back to comfortable within a few minutes of driving, and the front vents push hard once the engine warms. Rear passengers get their own air, which keeps the back seat usable for kids on a 45-degree afternoon. Crack the windows for the first half-minute to dump the trapped heat, then let the AC do the rest.
A couple of Dubai admin points. Salik tolls run on your account while the car's with you, and any RTA fines during the rental pass to the renter, so watch the limits on the E11. Seat belts are required in every seat, and children under four need a proper child seat, which we can fit on request.
Rent the Seltos 2023 if you want one no-drama car for a Dubai week: easy to park, high enough to see out of, roomy enough for the luggage, and cheap enough on fuel that you barely think about it. It's the sensible middle choice, and there's nothing wrong with sensible.
Size up to a Tucson or Creta if you've got four adults plus a full set of airport cases, or you want the bigger boot and a plusher cabin. Size down to a hatch like a Picanto if it's just one or two of you on short city hops and you'd rather pay less and park smaller. For everyone in between, the Seltos is the one to book.
