Kia Seltos 2023 - start from 160 AED / day

Need a small SUV that just gets the week done without fuss? We hand over the Kia Seltos 2023 across Dubai with a no-deposit option, so you can drive off without parking a chunk of cash on hold. This is the easy all-rounder of the compact crossover class: a higher seat than a hatch, a boot that swallows a real shop, and a footprint small enough to slot into the tight bays everyone else circles past. It won't pretend to be a luxury SUV, and it doesn't need to. For a couple or a small family wanting one sensible car to cover errands, school runs and the odd airport trip, the Seltos is a safe pick that asks for very little in return.

What kind of car you're actually getting

Kia builds the Seltos as a compact crossover, and that's exactly how it drives. You sit up higher than in a Picanto or a Rio, with a clear view over traffic on Sheikh Zayed Road, but the body stays short enough that parking never turns into a project. The GCC car runs a 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol with a six-speed automatic and front-wheel drive. No turbo, no drive-mode theatre, just a relaxed engine that does its job.

That relaxed nature is the honest catch. With 121 hp on tap, the Seltos pulls away from lights and merges fine, but ask it to overtake two cars at once at 120 on the E11 and you'll feel it gather itself first. Around town it never feels short of breath. It's a commuter car that cruises the highway calmly, not a quick one.

Boot and cabin: does your luggage fit

Five seats, real room for four, and a boot that's genuinely useful for this class. Two large suitcases stand up back there with space left for soft bags, which covers a DXB pickup for a couple or a family of four travelling light. Push the rear seats down and you've got a flat-ish floor for a flat-pack run or a week's worth of mall hauls.

The cabin is plain next to a Creta or a pricier crossover. You get the basics done well, an 8-inch screen, a clear layout, decent storage, but the materials are honest budget-SUV plastics, not soft-touch luxury. If you want the cabin to feel special, this isn't the car. If you want everything to fall to hand over a week, it delivers.

Heat, AC and the Dubai summer

This matters more than any spec sheet number in June. Park the Seltos in open sun and the cabin bakes like every car here, but the AC pulls it back to comfortable within a few minutes of driving, and the front vents push hard once the engine warms. Rear passengers get their own air through rear vents, which keeps the back seat usable for kids on a 45-degree afternoon rather than a sweatbox. Crack the windows for the first thirty seconds to dump the trapped heat, then let the AC do the rest.

Parking, ramps and speed bumps

At 4370 mm long the Seltos threads multi-storey bays and Marina ramps without the nervous reversing a bigger SUV forces on you. The 190 mm ground clearance is the quiet hero here. Speed bumps, steep mall entry ramps, the lip at a petrol station, none of it scrapes. You get the raised stance that makes Dubai's bumps a non-event, without the bulk that makes a Tucson a chore to park.

Fuel and how often you'll stop

Real Dubai economy on this engine lands around 10 to 12 km/L in mixed city driving, more if you spend time cruising the highway and less if you're crawling Business Bay at rush hour. With the 50-litre tank that's a comfortable few hundred kilometres of city use between fills, and a quoted range up to 743 km if you're gentle and highway-heavy. For a normal week of errands and a couple of airport runs, expect one fuel stop, maybe two.

A couple of Dubai admin points worth knowing. Salik tolls run on your account while the car's with you, and any RTA fines during the rental pass to you, so watch the speed limits on the E11. Seat belts are required in every seat, and children under four need a proper child seat, which we can fit on request.

Who should rent it, and who shouldn't

Rent the Seltos if you're a couple or a small family who wants one no-drama car for a Dubai week: easy to park, high enough to see out of, roomy enough for the luggage, and cheap enough on fuel that you barely think about it. It's the sensible middle choice, and there's nothing wrong with sensible.

Size up to a Tucson or a Creta if you've got four adults plus a full set of airport cases, want the bigger boot, or care about a nicer cabin and stronger highway pull. Size down to a hatch like a Picanto or a Rio if it's just one or two of you doing short city hops and you'd rather pay less and park even smaller. For everyone in between, the Seltos is the one to book.
