If you want the cheapest way to sit higher than a hatchback for a week of Dubai errands, the Kaiyi X3 2024 is one of the few crossovers that gets you there at a rock-bottom rate, and we hand it over with the no-deposit option so nothing extra gets blocked on your card. It rents here as a five-seat compact crossover, automatic, front-wheel drive. What you're really deciding is whether a budget Chinese SUV with basic materials and modest power is enough for how you actually drive, or whether you'd be happier paying a bit more for something more established. This page is honest about both.
The X3 is a value-brand car, and you feel it in the cabin. The plastics are hard, the switchgear is simple, and there's none of the soft-touch finish you get a class up. None of that matters much for short city stints, which is exactly what this car is for. The 1.5-litre engine makes 113 hp through a CVT automatic, so it's smooth and quiet pulling away from lights and perfectly fine up to highway speed.
Ask it to overtake quickly at 120 on Sheikh Zayed Road and you'll hear the engine work hard before much happens. It cruises at the limit without drama, but it's a relaxed cruiser, not a confident one. For city errands, the school run, and the occasional airport pickup, that's a non-issue. If your week is mostly long E11 stretches with three or four people aboard, you'll want more punch than this gives you.
| Spec | Kaiyi X3 2024 |
|---|---|
| Engine | 1.5-litre petrol |
| Power | 113 hp |
| Transmission | CVT automatic |
| Drive | Front-wheel drive |
| Seats | 5 |
| Fuel economy | 6.7 L/100km |
| Fuel tank | 51 litres |
| Range | around 750 km mixed driving |
| Dimensions (L x W x H) | 4400 x 1830 x 1653 mm |
| Ground clearance | 158 mm |
| Top speed | 180 km/h |
| 0 to 100 km/h | 11.5 seconds |
The numbers worth caring about are the economy and the range. At 6.7 L/100km on the official figure, real Dubai driving with the AC fighting the heat will land you closer to 8, and on a 51-litre tank that's still comfortably over 600 km between fills. For a renter doing city loops and the odd airport run, you'll fill up roughly once a week, sometimes less. That's genuinely cheap to run.
At just over 4.4 metres long it's a small crossover, and the boot is sized to match. Expect to fit one large suitcase plus a couple of soft bags, or a full week's grocery run, but not two big hard cases standing side by side. Two adults and two kids with a moderate amount of gear works well. A fourth adult plus everyone's airport luggage is where it gets tight, and you should size up to a proper sedan or a larger SUV.
The 158 mm of ground clearance is normal for the class. It clears Dubai's speed bumps and mall ramps without you flinching, and the higher seating gives you the visibility that's the whole point of renting a crossover over a hatch. This is a paved-road car though. The clearance and the front-wheel drive mean desert tracks and soft sand are off the table, so leave Hatta and the dunes to a 4x4.
Small footprint means parking is easy. It slots into tight multi-storey bays, handles Marina ramps and mall U-turns without a three-point shuffle, and the raised view helps in spots where a low hatch leaves you guessing.
Heat is the real test of any budget car here. Park the X3 in the open in July and the cabin bakes, and the AC takes a few minutes of strong front-vent airflow to pull a soaked cabin down from 45 outside to comfortable. It gets there, but there are no rear vents, so back-seat passengers wait longer to feel it. On a short hop that's fine. If kids ride in the back through midsummer, give it a head start before you load up.
A couple of operational facts worth knowing. Salik tolls run on your account during the rental, and any RTA fines from the road follow you, not us. Seat belts are required in every seat, and children under four need a child seat. Pickup and drop at DXB or DWC is straightforward given the car's size.
Rent the Kaiyi X3 2024 if you want the cheapest crossover seating height in Dubai for city use, you're mostly doing short trips and errands, and you care more about a low rate and easy parking than about cabin polish or highway muscle. As a budget runabout that gets you a higher view without the cost of an established badge, it does the job.
Skip it if you spend real time on the highway with a full car, or if interior quality and resale-grade refinement matter to you. For not a lot more, a Hyundai Venue or Creta, or a similar small crossover from a known brand, gives you stronger materials, better overtaking, and a more settled drive. The X3 wins on price and little else, and for the right renter that's exactly enough.
