Most compact SUVs on Dubai's rental lots set the minimum age at 21 or higher. The Kaiyi X3 2023 sets it at 20, a genuine edge for renters who keep getting turned away by a birthday still a year off. That is not the only reason to look past an unfamiliar badge. Kaiyi builds this car alongside its parent company Chery, and while nobody in your building's parking garage will recognize the name yet, the 1.5-litre turbo under the bonnet does real work on Sheikh Zayed Road. This page settles the practical question: does a newer brand, a lower age bar and doorstep delivery in one to two hours add up to a smart pick for your week, or should you pay more for a badge you already know?
Open the bonnet and you find a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder, 1,498 cc, making 156 hp and 230 Nm, sent to the front wheels through a CVT automatic. The torque figure is the one that decides how the car actually feels in traffic. It lands low in the rev range, so joining Sheikh Zayed Road from a standstill with the AC on full doesn't need you to floor it, unlike the naturally aspirated engines that fill most of this class. Push the CVT hard on a highway overtake and the engine note climbs faster than the speedometer does, which is the usual CVT trait rather than a flaw specific to this car. Around town, where most rental mileage actually happens, the turbo handles the early acceleration and the gearbox just holds the revs where the engine likes them.
Front-wheel drive is the whole drivetrain story here. There's no all-wheel-drive version anywhere in the X3 lineup, and the 158 mm of ground clearance is sized for speed bumps and mall ramps, not a Hatta track. Treat it as a city and highway car and it won't let you down. Take it toward the dunes and it will.
| Spec | Detail |

| Transmission | CVT automatic |
| Drive | Front-wheel drive |
| Seats | 5 |
| Boot | about 450 litres |
| Fuel tank | 51 litres |
| Fuel economy | about 10 km/L city, 14 km/L highway |

| Ground clearance | 158 mm |

The boot holds about 450 litres, which is honest small-crossover space. One large suitcase and a soft bag go in cleanly, and a third case means someone is holding something on their lap. A couple flying into DXB or DWC for a week packs into this without drama. A family of four with a full set of hold luggage will run out of room before they run out of bags.
The back seat is built for two adults on a normal trip. Three across works for kids on a short mall run, not for a highway haul with everyone's cases stacked around them. At 4.4 metres long and 1.83 metres wide, the X3 turns into a Marina tower bay or a multi-storey mall slot without the wide-turn wrestling a bigger SUV needs, and that 158 mm of clearance shrugs off the taller speed bumps and steep basement ramps that catch out lower cars.
The 51-litre tank and a fuel average around 10 km per litre in city traffic, better once you're cruising the highway, keep a week of driving cheap. This rental includes 250 km a day, and running the full allowance in city traffic means a fill roughly every two days. Go easier on the pedal or spend more time on the highway and that stretches further. Cover more than 250 km in a day and the extra runs AED 0.5 per kilometre, worth totting up before a longer day trip out of town. Salik tolls and any RTA fines picked up during the rental are the renter's to settle, as with every car here.
Parked in the sun on a Dubai afternoon, the cabin heats up the way any car's does, and the X3 doesn't have any hidden trick to avoid it. What helps is its size. A small cabin has less air to cool than a mid-size SUV's, so once the AC is running the front vents pull the temperature down within a few minutes rather than a long wait. Give it a minute before you climb back in on the hottest days, and use covered parking when you can.
Rent the X3 if you're closer to 20 than 25 and keep hitting age minimums elsewhere, or if the badge matters less to you than the rate and the week ahead is solo driving, a couple's trip, or city errands with ordinary luggage. The turbo engine gives it a real advantage over the naturally aspirated small SUVs in the same price range, and on a rental, an unfamiliar name carries none of the resale worry a buyer would take on. If something does go wrong, you call the desk and we send another car.
Look elsewhere if you're four adults travelling with a full week of luggage. The 450-litre boot and the back seat are built for two people comfortably, not four with cases along for the ride. And if Hatta or any stretch of sand is part of the plan, this is a front-wheel-drive tarmac car with no AWD option in the range, so a proper 4x4 is the right call instead. For everyone else, especially renters the rest of the market turns away at 21, the X3 is worth a look, and it's at your door within one to two hours of booking.
