Every Jetour T2 2026 we hand over in Dubai gets the same question at the kerb, usually before the paperwork is even signed: can I take it into the dunes? The car looks like it wants to, so we answer it up front. What it does not have is low range gearing. That one fact decides whether this is the right car for your week, and it shapes everything below.

What the four wheel drive actually does

The T2 runs a BorgWarner on demand system with a set of terrain modes, including sand and mud, and it sends drive rearward the moment the fronts start to slip. Underneath there is 220 mm of ground clearance and a 39 degree approach angle, which are proper numbers rather than styling claims. On a graded desert track, a Hatta wadi road, or the rutted access lane to a half finished building site, the T2 will go places that leave a normal crossover stranded on its belly pan.

Where it stops is soft sand. The body is a unibody, not a ladder frame, and the gearbox is a seven speed dual clutch. In deep sand at crawling speed, low range is what multiplies torque so the transmission is not slipping its clutches to keep you moving, and the T2 has no low range to call on. A dual clutch is the least happy gearbox there is in that situation, and heat is what kills them. So take it up the Hatta road, take it down a graded track, air the tyres down and enjoy it. If the plan is a dune session with a convoy, book a Wrangler or a body on frame 4x4 instead and leave this one on the harder stuff.

Five seats, and a boot that handles the airport run

The boxy shape pays off inside. A 2800 mm wheelbase and a roof that goes straight back rather than tapering means rear headroom is generous even for a tall adult, and the door apertures are square, which is the difference between fitting a child seat in thirty seconds and fighting it for five minutes in a car park. Two adults and two kids travel in this without anyone negotiating knee room.

The boot is tall and square with a low lip, so it loads better than the litre figure on any spec sheet suggests. For a DXB or DWC run, two large cases plus soft bags go in without folding anything, and a third case fits if you drop one side of the rear bench. It is a five seater though, with no third row on this car. If you need seven seats, this is the wrong booking.

The highway, the parking bay and the heat

On Sheikh Zayed Road the T2 is better than its shape suggests. There is 390 Nm available from 1750 rpm, so an overtake at 100 needs a squeeze of throttle rather than a plan. The tall square body does catch a crosswind on the flyovers and generates more wind noise past 120 than a lower SUV would, which is the price of the look. In stop and go traffic the dual clutch can feel slightly hesitant pulling away from a standstill, and that is normal for the gearbox rather than a fault.

Parking is where the size bites. At 2006 mm wide this is a broad car, wider than most family SUVs on the road here, and older multi storey bays around the Marina and the city centre malls leave you very little door clearance. Fold the mirrors and use the cameras. The upside is that 220 mm of clearance means speed bumps, kerbs and steep ramp lips are a non event, and you sit high enough to see over most traffic.

Heat is the other daily reality. A big glassy cabin parked in a Dubai August is a slow cooker, and the T2 has a lot of glass to soak it up, so it takes longer to pull down than a small hatchback would. Once it is running the front vents are strong and rear passengers get their own air, which is what matters with kids strapped in behind you. Give it three or four minutes with the fan up before you expect it to feel civilised.

Salik tolls and any RTA fines during the rental are charged to you, belts are required in every seat, and under fours need a child seat we can fit on request. We include 300 km a day, with anything beyond that at AED 0.5 per kilometre, which covers a Hatta round trip and a week of city driving comfortably. The 70 litre tank gives roughly 750 km on the official 9.3 L/100 km figure and closer to 600 in real traffic with the AC working, so plan on one fill for a normal week.

Who should rent it, and who should take something else

Rent the T2 if you want a large, comfortable, properly equipped SUV with the presence of a serious off roader and enough real capability to handle graded tracks, wadi roads and a Hatta weekend. For a family of four with luggage, or a group wanting something with more character than the usual white crossover, it is a lot of car for the money and the rent from 18 option makes it bookable by younger drivers who would be turned away elsewhere.

Take something else in two cases. If your weekend is soft sand dune driving, the missing low range and the dual clutch gearbox make this the wrong tool and a Wrangler or Land Cruiser is the right one. If your week is entirely city errands and tight parking, the 2006 mm width will annoy you daily and a mid size crossover will do the same job with less hassle. Book the T2 for the weeks where it gets out of the city, and it earns its keep.
