Book the JAC S3 2023 for two weeks or a full month in Dubai and the number that actually matters is not a daily cap. It is the 5,000 km pool that covers the whole rental, not a Monday-to-Sunday allowance that resets every morning. For a short week that is practically unlimited driving. For a longer stay it is the more useful shape of allowance, because a quiet week at the desk can cover a heavy weekend out to Al Ain without any extra sums. The mileage deal, and what it's worth

Most rental mileage allowances reset every day, which sounds generous until you actually use one. Boot, back seat and the daily load

The boot is where the S3 quietly beats cars that cost more to rent. With the rear seats up you get around 600 litres, and folding them opens that to roughly 1,100 litres. A Hyundai Creta, one of the cars renters cross-shop against it, gives you 433 litres, so the gap is real rather than a rounding difference. Two large suitcases and the odd duty-free bag go in standing up, which makes the S3 an easy DXB or DWC pickup for anyone arriving with real luggage rather than a weekend bag.

The back seat is honest about what it is. Two adults sit fine on a normal trip, and three kids across the bench works for the school run, but load a fifth adult in for a long airport haul with everyone's cases aboard and knees start meeting the front seats. Ground clearance is only 155 mm, low for something with SUV styling, so normal speed bumps and mall ramps are no trouble but the steepest basement entries and the tallest bumps in older buildings want a slower approach. At 4,345 mm long and 1,765 mm wide it still drops into a Marina tower bay or a mall multi-storey slot without drama, and U-turns on tight service roads are easy for a car this size.

Running costs, tolls and the summer cabin

Under the bonnet is the same 1.6-litre naturally aspirated four across the S3 range, 118 hp and 150 Nm, with peak torque arriving high at 3,500 to 4,500 rpm. That is the naturally aspirated signature, not a turbo's, whatever some listings claim. Paired with the CVT it pulls smoothly rather than urgently, which suits Sheikh Zayed Road cruising and stop-start city traffic more than a loaded overtake at highway speed.

JAC has not published a combined economy figure for the GCC-spec car worth repeating, so budget by the tank instead. It holds 45 litres, and our desk estimate for city driving, not an official rating, is roughly 450 to 500 km per fill, so expect a stop at the pump once or twice most weeks. Salik tolls and any RTA fines during the rental are the renter's responsibility, standard across the fleet.

Heat works in the S3's favour because there is less cabin to cool than in a bigger SUV. Once you are in and the automatic climate control is running, the front seats come good within a couple of minutes. Give it that short head start before setting off in August rather than expecting instant relief the moment you climb back in, and use shade or a basement bay when you can. This is budget cooling done honestly, not the layered climate control of a pricier car, but it is enough for a Dubai summer if you treat it right.

Who this suits, and who should book something else

Book the S3 2023 if you are in Dubai for more than a week and want a mileage pool that does not punish a quiet Tuesday for a busy Saturday. It suits a couple or small family doing city routines, mall runs and the odd trip out of town, and the boot means you do not need to pack light. The badge is unfamiliar to most renters, JAC sells here through Al Habtoor Motors, but the mechanicals are simple by design, a naturally aspirated 1.6 and a CVT with nothing exotic to go wrong. On a rental the reliability question sits with us, not you.

Book something else if your stay is mostly highway or you are moving heavy loads at speed, since the 118 hp engine is tuned for calm progress, not confident overtakes with four aboard. And if any part of the trip goes off the tarmac, Hatta trails or dunes, the low 155 mm clearance and front-wheel drive rule the S3 out entirely. For a longer city stay where flexibility on distance matters more than outright pace, it is one of the more sensible bookings in the fleet.
