Rent JAC S3 2023 in Dubai

Most people who book the JAC S3 2023 with us have never sat in one, and the first thing they ask at handover is whether a JAC is any good. Fair question about a badge you don't see every day. What actually gets this small crossover booked is the boot, because for the rate almost nothing in our economy line swallows luggage the way it does. We run it in Dubai for exactly that reason, deliver it to your door within one to two hours, and take debit card or cash when we hand over the keys. This page sticks to the two things that decide the rental: what the S3 costs to run, and how much it carries.

What a week of it costs to run

Under the bonnet is a 1.6-litre naturally aspirated four, making 118 hp and 150 Nm. That peak torque arrives high, between 3,500 and 4,500 rpm, which is the giveaway that no turbo is helping the engine along. A few listings call the S3 turbocharged. It isn't. On the road that means a car which pulls calmly rather than quickly, paired with a CVT that keeps the revs sitting where the engine is happiest. For city errands and the school run it's fine. Ask it to haul four adults up a Sheikh Zayed Road on-ramp and you'll plan the overtake rather than just take it.

JAC doesn't publish a combined economy figure I'd stand behind for the GCC car, so go by the tank instead. It holds 45 litres, which is on the small side, so a normal week of Dubai city driving means a visit to the pump once or twice rather than a fortnight between fills. Fuel here is cheap enough that this rarely stings.

The number to read before you book is the mileage cap. You get 250 km a day included, which covers city life comfortably. Past that it's AED 0.5 for every extra kilometre, so a day trip out to Hatta or Al Ain and back wants a quick sum first. Salik tolls and any RTA fines during the rental fall to you, as they do on every car here, and you can take the keys from 21.

The boot is the reason to book it

This is where the S3 earns its keep. The load bay is genuinely big for the class, around 600 litres with the rear seats up, opening to roughly 1,100 litres once you fold them. Put that next to the small crossovers people usually cross-shop and the gap is real. A Creta gives you about 433 litres, most hatchbacks a good deal less. Two large suitcases and a couple of soft bags go in without folding anything down, which makes the S3 an easy DXB or DWC run for a family that travels heavy.

The cabin around it is honest economy. Two adults sit fine up front with a raised crossover view, and the back seat takes two adults on normal trips or three kids across. It carries like a bigger car at the tailgate, not in the second row, so a fifth adult on a long haul is still a squeeze.

One caveat the SUV styling hides: ground clearance is only 155 mm, low for something this shape. It clears normal speed bumps and mall ramps, but take Dubai's tallest bumps and steep basement entries gently, because there isn't much air under the nose. At 4.34 metres long and 1.77 wide it drops into tight tower and multi-storey bays without drama. It's front-wheel drive on road tyres, so treat it as a tarmac car and keep it off the soft sand.

Cooling it in a Dubai summer

Leave any grey car in a July car park and the cabin bakes, and the S3 is no exception. The upside is that this is a fairly compact cabin, so there's less air to chill than in a big SUV, and the front vents pull hard once the automatic climate control is running. Give it a couple of minutes with the fan up before you set off and it comes good quickly.

Keep your expectations set to budget, though. This is effective cooling, not the layered climate luxury of a pricier car, so park in shade or a basement when you can and get the AC going before everyone climbs back in. On the hottest afternoons that habit matters more than any spec.

Who should rent it, and who should skip it

Rent the S3 if you want the most boot for the money and you're doing city weeks, mall runs and airport pickups. As for the badge, don't let the unfamiliar name put you off a rental. The mechanicals are deliberately simple, a naturally aspirated 1.6 and a CVT with nothing exotic to go wrong, and on a rental the reliability risk sits with us, not you. If it plays up, you call and we swap it.

Skip it, or size up, in two honest cases. If you want punch, the 118 hp engine is built for calm city pace, not overtaking a loaded car on the highway, and a turbocharged rival will feel far less strained. And if your week involves dunes, Hatta trails or anything off the blacktop, this low-clearance front-driver is the wrong tool, and you want a proper 4x4 instead.

For everyone else the maths is simple. If you need a big boot at an economy rate and you'll spend the week on tarmac, the JAC S3 is one of the smartest-value bookings in Dubai. Pay for the cargo, not the cachet.
