Most economy-class SUVs you rent in Dubai are slow on purpose, built to a price with just enough engine to merge and no more. The JAC JS6 2024 isn't one of them. Its 1.5-litre turbo makes 181 hp and 300 Nm, which is genuinely punchy for the rate, and we deliver it to your door in one to two hours with a no-deposit option. We also rent it from age 18, where most desks make you wait until 21. The argument here is straightforward: if you want a midsize SUV with real overtaking shove and the space for a family week, the JS6 gives you more engine than its class usually does. The catch is the gearbox, and I'll be honest about that below.
The turbo is the headline. With 181 hp and 300 Nm through a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic and the front wheels, the JS6 pulls hard for an economy SUV. Merging onto Sheikh Zayed Road is effortless, and a three-lane overtake at 120 happens without the strained, flat-out feel you get in a 1.6 naturally aspirated rival. For a fully loaded car on the E11, that extra grunt is worth more than any spec-sheet figure.
The dual-clutch is the trade. These gearboxes are crisp once moving but can feel hesitant in slow crawling traffic, the kind you sit in on Al Khail at 6pm, with a slight lurch as it picks a gear off the line. You get used to it inside a day. If you've only ever driven smooth torque-converter autos, it's worth knowing before you book.

This is a properly sized midsize SUV, and the boot shows it. With the rear seats up it swallows four large 23 kg suitcases, which is rare at this rate and the reason a family of four flying into DXB or DWC won't be playing luggage Tetris. Five adults fit without anyone pleading for room, and at 1890 mm wide there's real shoulder space across the back. For a week of mall runs, beach trips, and an airport pickup with the whole family, the JS6 has the room the smaller crossovers in this class don't.
A turbo that's quick usually drinks, but the JS6 is reasonable when you're not leaning on it. The combined figure sits near 12.5 km/L, and in real Dubai traffic with the AC working against 45-degree heat you'll see a bit less, more like 10 to 11. The 55-litre tank still stretches a normal city week into roughly one fill, give or take, with around 687 km of range to play with. Drive it hard on the highway and that drops, since the fun costs fuel. Salik tolls run on your account as you pass the gantries, and any RTA fines during the rental come to you, so watch the cameras on Sheikh Zayed Road.
Park a dark SUV in July and the cabin turns into an oven, so cooling speed is what counts. The JS6's AC pulls a hot interior down at a good pace once you're moving, and the larger cabin means giving it a couple of minutes with the fans up before the back row feels it. Crack the windows for the first half-minute to dump the worst heat and it copes well after. On the road it's a tall, 1890 mm-wide SUV, so older Marina towers and tight mall basements want the cameras and a slow turn. The 160 mm of clearance handles Dubai's speed bumps and mall ramps without scraping. Treat it as a confident road SUV, not a sand machine; soft dunes need a proper 4x4.
Rent the JS6 2024 if you want a midsize SUV with real engine and family-sized space at an economy rate, especially if highway overtaking and a big boot matter to you, and the rent-from-18 eligibility helps younger drivers stuck for options. It punches above its price on power and room. Skip it if your week is all slow city crawling and you hate any dual-clutch hesitation, where a torque-converter auto feels smoother, or if you need true off-road capability. For most renters who want one quick, spacious SUV for a Dubai week, the JS6 is an easy call and better value than the badge suggests.
