The JAC JS6 2024 is a highway car that happens to be shaped like a family SUV, and knowing that before you book saves a lot of disappointment later. We rent it in Dubai from age 18, three years below what most desks here will consider, and we bring it to your building instead of making you queue at a counter. The 1.5-litre turbo under the bonnet makes 181 hp, which is real pace for an economy-class rate. What it does not give you is the boot you are probably picturing. That gap between the engine and the luggage bay is the decision this page exists to settle.
JAC's UAE distributor publishes no combined consumption figure for the JS6, and the third-party numbers circulating online sit too far apart for us to quote one as fact. So work from the tank instead. It holds 55 litres, and it is feeding a 1,560 kg car with a turbocharged 1,499 cc engine making 181 hp at 4,850 rpm. Drive it the way most renters do, which is city errands with an airport run and perhaps one stretch along the E11, and that is a single fill in a normal week. Lean on the 280 Nm it makes from 1,600 rpm and you will see the gauge move faster. Petrol here is cheap enough that the difference shows up as how often you stop rather than as real money.
The distance allowance is the number more likely to catch you out. You get 300 km a day included, and anything past that runs at AED 0.5 per kilometre. Abu Dhabi and back sits comfortably inside that. Doing it every day does not. Salik deducts at each gantry and comes back to you at the end of the hire, and any RTA fine raised while the car is yours passes through the same way.

The badge and the bodywork do not prepare you for this part. The JS6 measures 4,605 mm long and 1,890 mm wide on a 2,720 mm wheelbase, which is a genuine mid-size footprint, and the boot behind all of that is 490 litres. That is less than the smaller JS4 gives you, and well under what the cheaper S3 swallows. Two large hard cases and a few soft bags go in without a fight. Four people flying in for a week with a case each will be folding part of the rear bench or stacking things on the back seat.
Where the size does show up is in the seating. Nearly 1,900 mm across gives three adults a real shoulder each in the back rather than the polite pretence you get in a compact crossover, and the long wheelbase leaves rear legroom for people with legs. Five adults travel in comfort. Five adults and all their luggage do not. If your week is about carrying people, this is the right shape. If it is about carrying things, JAC's smaller and cheaper cars take more, which is an odd sentence to write and the honest one.
Most cars at this rate leave you to open the door onto trapped air at 60 degrees and sit in it while the vents catch up. The JS6 does not. Its smart key carries a remote engine and air conditioning start, so you can set the car running from the lift lobby and walk out to a cabin that has already begun cooling. On an August afternoon that one feature is worth more than most of the equipment list.
It needs the head start, because there is a lot of air in here to move and a panoramic roof overhead letting heat in through the glass. Once you are going, the automatic system brings the front down quickly, and there are rear air outlets, so the back seats are not left waiting on whatever drifts between the front headrests. That matters if children ride behind you every day. Park in shade where you can find it, and use the remote start rather than the door handle.
At 1,700 mm tall the JS6 clears the two-metre bars on mall and residential basements without anyone having to think about it, and 160 mm of minimum ground clearance handles speed bumps and steep ramp lips with a full car aboard. Width is the dimension you feel. Tight bays in older towers want a slow approach and a glance at the 360-degree camera.
On the E11 the JS6 settles better than its price suggests, and the reason sits at the back. It runs a multi-link independent rear axle where nearly everything else in this class uses a torsion beam, so it holds a line over broken surface and through fast sweepers instead of skipping sideways. The gearbox is a six-speed dual-clutch, crisp once moving and slightly hesitant off the line in crawling traffic, which you stop noticing inside a day. One flat warning to finish: this is front-wheel drive, no all-wheel-drive version is sold in this market, and the ride height is there for ramps and bumps. Soft sand will strand you.
Book it if your week is about people and pace. Four or five adults who want room across the back, a long run out to Abu Dhabi or Hatta without the engine sounding busy, and an equipment list running to adaptive cruise, blind-spot detection, six airbags and a 12.3-inch screen at a rate that has no business including any of it.
There are two reasons to book something else. If luggage is the point of the rental, this is the wrong JAC, and the cheaper ones in the range genuinely carry more. And if your week is all slow city crawling, the dual-clutch is at its least charming in exactly that traffic, so a smooth torque-converter automatic will suit you better. Rent the JS6 as a fast, wide, well-equipped road SUV and it is one of the better-value keys we hand over. Rent it as a load-carrier and the boot will start annoying you by Wednesday.
