Jac Js4 2024 - start from 175 AED / day

The flight lands at Terminal 3 near two in the morning, and the cases coming off it are not cabin bags. A family arriving for a fortnight is one of the most common reasons people rent the JAC JS4 2024 in Dubai, because a household with one car suddenly needs a second. We can have it outside your building in an hour or two, which helps when the arrival time moves. The JS4 offers a 520-litre boot behind five seats at an economy rate. What it will not do is take four checked cases and five people on the same trip, and that limit is worth planning around before the pickup.

Four checked cases, and the one that has to go flat

520 litres is generous for a compact SUV, and on an arrivals run it buys you a specific amount of room rather than a vague promise of space. A full-size checked case stands roughly 79 cm tall. Two of those go in upright with space alongside for hand luggage and whatever came out of duty free. A third fits if you lay it flat across the other two. The fourth is where you run out, and no amount of repacking in the car park changes that.

The 60:40 split bench is what saves the trip. Fold the narrow 40 side and the fourth case goes in with two rear seats still usable, so you lose one passenger rather than the whole back row. Fold both sides and the load bay opens to about 1,050 litres, which is a furniture run rather than an airport run. Plan the pickup around three guests and three large cases and the JS4 handles it comfortably. Plan it around four of each and you are making two trips or booking something bigger.

Who is sitting in the back, and what the AC does about it

A 2,620 mm wheelbase gives the rear seats proper legroom, so a guest sitting behind a tall driver is not folded up for the drive home. Width is the honest constraint. At 1,800 mm across, three adults on the back bench works for the run in from the airport and stops being pleasant well before you reach Abu Dhabi on a day trip. If your visitors are travelling with a child under four, UAE law requires a proper child seat, and we fit one before delivery if you give us the ages at booking.

Then there is the temperature they step into. By the time you have parked, waited out a baggage belt and walked back, the car has been sitting in Dubai heat for the better part of an hour, and anything with this much glass area comes back hot. What helps here is equipment JAC did not skimp on. The air conditioning is automatic and there are rear air outlets, which plenty of cars renting at this money still leave out. Cold air reaches the back row directly instead of drifting through from the dashboard, and after a long flight your passengers will notice. Give it two or three minutes of driving before the cabin is genuinely comfortable, and use a covered parking structure over an open surface bay whenever the terminal offers one.

Where the two weeks actually cost you

Guest duty runs up more kilometres than an ordinary Dubai week. Airport runs at both ends, malls, a beach day, and usually one trip out of the emirate. Every rental includes 300 km a day with anything beyond that at AED 0.5 per kilometre, which normal city use never approaches. A return drive to Abu Dhabi is a different matter, since it lands close to the full daily allowance on its own. Worth knowing which day you are spending it on.

Salik adds up quietly on top of that. Airport runs cross the toll gates repeatedly over a fortnight, and those charges come back to you, as does any RTA fine issued while the car is in your name.

On fuel we are not going to quote you a consumption figure. JAC's UAE material does not publish a combined number, and the third-party figures circulating online disagree with each other by too wide a margin to be useful. The tank holds 50 litres. What the fleet tells us is that a quiet city week goes by on a single fill, and a fortnight of ferrying people around with a day trip in it will want two or three stops.

Loaded on the E11, and into an old basement

The 1.5-litre turbo makes 147 hp with 210 Nm available from 2,000 rpm, and driving it empty around town it feels brisk enough. Load it with five people and a boot full of cases and you meet the CVT properly. Ask for a decisive overtake on the E11 in that state and the revs rise noticeably ahead of the speed, so give yourself a longer gap than instinct suggests. Settled at 110 to 120 it is quiet and stable, which is the pace that matters. The quoted 170 km/h top speed is not a number you will ever use.

Parking is the easier half. At 4,410 mm long the JS4 is compact for the room it gives you, and the 360-degree camera with rear sensors lets you place it by the screen in the tight bays of an airport multi-storey or an older residential basement. JAC quotes a minimum of 150 mm ground clearance at full load, so ramps and the harsher community speed bumps clear even with the car fully weighed down.

One thing to settle before your guests suggest it. This car drives its front wheels only, and no all-wheel-drive JS4 has been sold in this market. The ride height is bodywork, not capability. It will take the tarmac out to Hatta happily, but a dune camp needs a real four-wheel-drive, and taking this one onto soft sand ends with a recovery truck.

Book it for the guest run, not the desert run

Rent the JS4 if you are the one hosting: luggage volume is your actual problem, the driving is mostly urban, and you want a second car for two weeks without a deposit tied up on your card. It gives you more usable space than anything else renting at this level, and we can hand the keys to an 18-year-old with a year of licence behind them, which most desks in this city will not.

Look elsewhere in two cases. If five passengers and four large cases is the regular shape of your trip rather than the occasional one, take a seven-seater instead of trying to make it fit. And if you spend real time at highway speed with a full car, the CVT will wear on you, so a mid-size SUV with a conventional automatic is the better fortnight. Short of that, the JS4 does the airport-and-errands job cheaply and with room to spare.
