This JAC JS4 2023 lands on our fleet in white, and in Dubai that's a genuinely useful colour rather than a default one. White reflects more of the afternoon sun off the bodywork than a dark grey or black paint job, so a car left in an open lot for a few hours starts a little cooler when you get back in, even if the difference is modest rather than dramatic. The JS4 itself is still a newer name on Dubai roads than a Kia Seltos or Hyundai Creta, part of why it rents for less than either. We drop it at your door within one to two hours. This page looks at what a lesser-known compact SUV actually gives you, in white and on paper.

Look up the JS4 online and plenty of listings still call it a 1.6 with 109 hp. That's wrong on both counts. The engine is a 1.5-litre turbo four making 147 hp and 210 Nm, and the torque holds flat from 2,000 rpm through to 4,500, a curve that only a turbo produces. Pull away from a light and the boost is already doing the work, so you're not burying the pedal to keep up with the car next to you.
The gearbox is a CVT, and it does what every CVT does under a hard launch: the engine note climbs before the road speed catches up. Around town that rarely matters, since the turbo covers most of what you need before the revs build. Settle in at 120 on Sheikh Zayed Road and the JS4 holds its line without strain. It's not a quick car and doesn't try to be, but it never feels like the one holding up the lane either.
The boot holds about 520 litres with the rear seats up, room for two large suitcases and a soft bag without folding anything down, which makes a DXB or DWC pickup straightforward. Drop the 60/40 bench and that opens to roughly 1,050 litres, enough for flatpack furniture or a full grocery run in one trip.
The back seat takes two adults in real comfort, or three kids across for school runs and weekend outings. Add a fourth adult with everyone's cases for a full day out and it tightens, the honest limit of any five-seater at 4.4 metres long. Up front there's proper room and the raised seating that's half the reason people pick a crossover over a hatchback.
At 4.41 metres the JS4 drops into mall and tower parking bays without the extra reversing passes a full-size SUV needs. Ground clearance is the one figure to know before you book: 150 mm is modest for something styled like an SUV, lower than a Seltos or a Creta, and while normal speed bumps are no issue, the tall ones and steep basement ramps want a slow, angled approach. This is also front-wheel drive on standard road tyres, so it belongs on tarmac. Point it at soft sand and it digs in, and if Hatta trails are on the plan, book a proper 4x4 instead.
JAC hasn't published an official combined fuel economy figure for the GCC JS4, so treat any specific km per litre claim online as someone's estimate rather than a manufacturer number. What we can say from running the car is that the 50-litre tank covers somewhere near 500 km of city driving, close to one fill a week on a normal commute. The rental itself works on a daily allowance: 250 km included per day, then AED 0.5 for every kilometre past that. School runs and mall errands won't come near it, but a day trip to Hatta and back is worth a glance at the odometer before you leave. Salik tolls and any RTA fines during the rental are the renter's responsibility, standard across every car on our fleet, and you'll need to be at least 25 to take the keys on this one.
Heat is the real rental question in Dubai, not a footnote. Leave the JS4 parked under the July sun and the cabin still heats up, no paint colour changes that. What the white body does is start you from a slightly lower surface temperature than a dark car parked in the same spot, and because the cabin itself is mid-sized rather than cavernous, the front vents pull it down to bearable within a few minutes of climbing back in. Park in shade when you can and the whole question barely comes up. The controls are straightforward physical dials, nothing trying to look premium, which suits a budget SUV fine across a week or a month.
Book the JS4 2023 if you want real SUV space and a turbo engine that actually pulls, at a rate below what a Seltos or Creta commands, and the JAC name doesn't put you off. It suits couples splitting a week between malls and the airport, small families who need the boot more than a familiar logo on the tailgate, and anyone who's had enough of naturally aspirated budget crossovers running out of breath on a highway on-ramp. On the trust question, the honest answer is that if anything needs attention mid-week, that's a call to our desk rather than a trip to a dealer network you don't know, and we'll get a replacement out to you.
Size up to a mid-size SUV or a seven-seater if you're regularly carrying four adults with a full boot, since the back row and the 520-litre boot both tighten under that load. Skip it altogether if dunes or Hatta trails are on the itinerary, because the front-wheel drive and 150 mm of clearance keep this one on the blacktop. For a week of city driving, mall runs and airport pickups, the white JS4 does more for the money than the badge suggests, and it's at your door within one to two hours.
