Of the small crossovers we hand over for a Dubai week, the Hyundai Venue 2023 is the one that asks the least of you. We rent it with the no-deposit option, so you can have this little SUV at your door in an hour or two without leaving a security hold on your card. It sits a touch higher than a hatchback, slips into the tight Marina and mall bays that make bigger cars sweat, and costs little to run. This page is about whether the freshest Venue is enough car for your trip, or whether you should size up to a Creta.
Think of it as Hyundai's smallest crossover, restyled and better equipped for 2023, built for one or two people who want a high seating position without the bulk. The 1.6-litre petrol makes 121 hp through a 6-speed automatic and the front wheels. That is honest city power, not highway muscle. Around town it feels willing and the gearbox is smooth, but ask for a hard overtake at speed and it takes a breath before it answers.
For a single driver, a couple, or a parent doing the school run and the weekly shop, it has plenty. Load it with four adults and a week of cases and it feels its size.

This is where the Venue earns its keep. At just under four metres long it is one of the easiest cars we rent to place. Spiral ramps in Marina towers, the tight downward bays under Dubai Mall, a U-turn on a busy side road: none of it is a problem. You point it and it goes where you look.
The 190 mm of clearance is the quiet bonus. Speed bumps in the older communities, raised entrances to parking podiums, the lip at a mall ramp, the Venue clears them flat where a low sedan scrapes. You sit up high enough to see over the car in front in traffic, which makes Sheikh Zayed Road lane changes calmer than they are in a small hatch.
On the E11 itself the Venue cruises at the limit happily. It just is not a car for spirited overtaking. Settle into a lane and it does the airport run to DXB or the longer haul out to DWC without fuss.
A small cabin is the Venue's advantage on a 45-degree afternoon. There is less air to chill, so the AC pulls a parked car down to comfortable faster than it would in a big SUV. Expect a minute or two of hot air first, then a quick, strong recovery from the front vents. Park in shade when you can, and you will be cool before you reach the first junction. Rear passengers sit close to those front vents, so the back stays bearable even without dedicated rear outlets.
The 45-litre tank is the headline for anyone watching their week's budget. Driven sensibly in mixed city use, the Venue returns somewhere around 8.5 to 9 litres per 100 km in real Dubai conditions, more than the official combined figure because of stop-start traffic and the AC working hard. That still puts a comfortable 480 to 500 km of city driving in a tank.
In practice most renters fill it once for a normal week and forget about it, and a run of long highway days stretches a tank past 600 km. Remember that Salik tolls and any RTA fines run to you as the renter, so the gates on Sheikh Zayed Road add up over a week of crossings.
The 350-litre boot is the line that decides a lot of bookings. It swallows one large suitcase plus a couple of soft bags, or a stroller and the weekly groceries with room to spare. What it will not do is take three big hard cases for four people heading to the airport. A family of four flying out with a full set of luggage should fold the back seats for a one-way run or step up to something larger. Drop the rear bench and you free up 903 litres, genuinely useful for a flat-pack pickup or a desert-camping kit for two.
Rent the Venue if you are one or two people, or a small family doing city miles, who wants an easy, economical, higher-set car that parks anywhere. It is the smallest sensible Hyundai crossover and the freshest one we stock, and for errands, commutes and airport runs with modest luggage it is hard to beat on running cost and ease.
Skip it if you regularly carry four adults, pack heavy, or spend most of your week pushing past 120 on the highway. For that, look at the Creta. It gives you the boot, the rear-seat room and the extra pull the Venue trades away to stay small and cheap to run. Match the car to the week you are actually having, and for a lot of Dubai trips that car is the Venue.
