A 45-litre tank and a 1.6 petrol that sips in traffic is the quiet reason the Hyundai Venue 2022 rents so well in Dubai, and we'll bring one to your door in 1 to 2 hours so you can skip the rental counter entirely. This is the compact SUV to pick when you want a slightly raised seat and easy parking without paying for a thirsty engine. Our take: for a couple or a small family doing daily city runs and the odd airport trip, the Venue is the sensible-money crossover that won't have you filling up every other day. Where it asks you to compromise is outright space, and we'll be straight about that below.
The number that decides a week in this car is the 45-litre tank feeding a 1.6-litre petrol engine. In Dubai city driving, stop-start with the AC working, you're realistically looking at high 7s to mid 8s in litres per 100 km, which puts a full tank somewhere around 500 to 550 km of mixed running. For most renters that's the better part of a week before you think about a station. A couple of runs out to DXB and back won't dent it much, and at current fuel prices topping up a tank this size is cheap.
The 121 hp engine is no firecracker, but it doesn't need to be. It pulls cleanly away from the lights and has enough in reserve to merge onto Sheikh Zayed Road without drama. Push it hard above 120 and you'll hear it working, so settle into a cruise and it's happy. The automatic gearbox is smooth in the stop-go crawl that defines most Dubai driving.

It's a five-seater, and the honest picture is two adults up front in comfort with kids fine across the back. Put three adults on the rear bench for a long run and the middle seat gets old quickly. For the typical rental here, two adults and a couple of children, there's room to spare.
The boot is the part to plan around. At roughly 350 litres it swallows one large suitcase and a couple of soft bags without trouble, which covers a couple collecting from the airport. A family of four packing full-size cases for a week will be folding part of the rear seat or stacking bags on a lap. If you're picking up four adults with full luggage from DXB, this is where we'd point you at a larger SUV instead. The Venue carries a holiday for two comfortably, not four.
This is where the small footprint pays off. At just over four metres long the Venue drops into tight multi-storey bays and threads the steep Marina ramps without you holding your breath. The slightly raised seating gives you a clear view over the bonnet, which helps in mall car parks and on U-turns. With 195 mm of ground clearance it clears Dubai's speed bumps and the lips on mall entrances without scraping, so you're not crawling over every hump. It's front-wheel drive and built for tarmac, so it's a city and highway car, not a dune machine. For soft sand you'd want a proper 4x4.
From May to September this matters more than any spec. Parked in direct sun at 45 degrees the cabin turns into an oven, and what counts is how fast it recovers. The Venue's AC pulls the temperature down at a reasonable pace once you're moving and the front vents blow strong, which is what you need for a cabin this size. There are no separate rear air vents, so back-seat passengers rely on the cold air pushing back from the front. In a car this small that's usually enough within a few minutes, but on the school run with kids in the back, give it a moment to catch up before everyone's comfortable.
Salik tolls are billed to the renter as you pass the gantries, and any RTA fines during your rental are passed on to you as well. If you're carrying a child under four, a child seat is required by law and we can fit one on request. We deliver and collect across Dubai, take everything from debit cards to cash and Apple Pay, and you get 250 km a day included, with extra kilometres at 1 AED each.
Rent the Venue 2022 if you want a frugal, easy-to-park crossover for city life and the occasional highway run, and you're a couple or a small family who value running cost and a raised view over outright room. It's the right size for Dubai's car parks and kind on the fuel budget.
Size up to a larger SUV if you regularly carry four adults with luggage or the boot is going to be full every day. And if the slightly higher seat isn't the point for you, a similarly priced hatchback gives you much the same economy for a touch less money. Judge the Venue on what it's for, a sensible daily runabout, and it's hard to fault.
