Most rental desks in Dubai won't hand a car to anyone under 21, so the Hyundai Venue 2022 is one we rent from 18, which makes it an easy first set of keys for a young resident or a student finding their feet in the city. It's a compact SUV that's simple to drive, simple to park, and cheap to run, which is exactly what you want when you're not chasing badges. Our argument for this one is straightforward: as a low-stress city crossover for a new or younger driver, the Venue does the job without intimidating you. The catch is space, and we'll say plainly where it runs short.
The first thing a less confident driver notices is how manageable the Venue feels. At roughly four metres long it's barely bigger than a hatchback, so tight multi-storey bays, the awkward ramps down into Marina basements, and busy mall car parks stop being a worry. You sit a little higher than in a normal hatch, and that raised view makes judging the front corners and U-turns much easier. Speed bumps and the sharp lips at mall entrances are no issue with 195 mm of ground clearance underneath. It's front-wheel drive, built for roads rather than dunes, so leave the soft sand to a proper 4x4 and the Venue handles everything a city week throws at it.

Under the bonnet sits a 1.6-litre petrol making 121 hp, driving the front wheels through a smooth automatic. The 0 to 100 km/h time of 11.2 seconds tells you the honest story: this isn't quick, but it's perfectly adequate. It gets off the line cleanly and has enough to slot into traffic on Sheikh Zayed Road, which is all most renters need. Above 120 it feels like it's working, so it rewards a relaxed cruise rather than hard overtaking. For a new driver that gentle character is a feature, not a flaw, because nothing about the car encourages you to push your luck.
The 45-litre tank keeps running costs low. In typical Dubai city use you'll see somewhere in the high 7s to mid 8s in litres per 100 km, so a full tank covers most of a week of errands and a couple of airport runs before you fill up again. For anyone watching the budget, that's the appeal.
Five seats, but read that as comfortable for four. Two up front and two children behind is the sweet spot. Three adults across the rear works for a short hop, not a long one. The boot holds around 350 litres, enough for one large case and a couple of soft bags, which suits two people travelling or a small family's weekly shop. Fold part of the rear seat down and you free up a lot more room for the occasional bigger load. If you're collecting four adults with full suitcases from the airport, this is the point where we'd steer you to a bigger SUV. For the daily reality of a young renter, the space is fine.
Cabin cooling is the question that matters from May through September, when a car left in the sun hits oven temperatures within minutes. The Venue's AC does a solid job for its size: the front vents blow hard and the small cabin cools down at a reasonable pace once you're rolling. There are no dedicated rear vents, so passengers in the back depend on cold air reaching them from the front, which in a cabin this compact usually happens quickly enough. Crack the windows for the first few seconds to dump the worst of the heat, then let the system catch up.
As the renter you pay Salik tolls as you pass the gantries, and any RTA fines during your rental are charged back to you. Seatbelts are required in every seat, and a child seat is mandatory for anyone under four, which we can supply on request. We deliver across Dubai in 1 to 2 hours, accept debit and credit cards, cash, bank transfer and the usual digital wallets, and include 250 km a day with extra kilometres at 1 AED.
Rent the Venue 2022 if you're a younger or newer driver who wants a small, fuss-free crossover for getting around Dubai, or anyone who values low running costs and easy parking over outright space and pace. From 18, with doorstep delivery, it's about as low-friction as a first rental gets.
Look at something larger if you regularly carry four adults and luggage, or if you want real punch on the highway. And if the higher seating doesn't matter to you, a small hatchback offers the same economy for slightly less. Taken as a calm, affordable city car, though, the Venue earns its keep.
