Hyundai TUCSON 2024 - start from 243 AED / day

Sharp creases, a full-width grille that hides its lights until they switch on, and twin wide screens across the dash: the Hyundai Tucson 2024 is the generation that made this compact SUV look expensive, and we rent it in Dubai with 250 km a day included, so a week of school runs, mall trips and the odd airport pickup rarely troubles the limit. We hand it over at your door, and what you get is a roomy, well-equipped five-seater that photographs like something pricier than it rents for. The question this page settles is whether the latest Tucson is the right family SUV for your week, or whether you should size up or down.

A cabin and dash that feel a class above

Step inside and the design carries through. The dash runs two wide displays side by side, one for the instruments and one for the touchscreen, and the column shifter frees up a deep console tray for phones and keys. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are there, so your maps plug straight in for the drive down Sheikh Zayed Road. It looks modern and it's genuinely practical: four adults sit comfortably, a fifth fits across the back, and the seats stay soft through a 40-minute crawl in traffic.

Boot space and whether your luggage fits

The boot is one of the real reasons to pick this car. With the rear seats up you get around 540 litres, enough for two large suitcases plus a couple of cabin bags. For a family flying into DXB or DWC, the cases go in the back and nobody rides with a bag on their lap. Drop the rear seats and it opens into a near-flat load floor for flat-pack furniture or a week's worth of shopping.

If you regularly carry six or seven people, this isn't your car. The Tucson is five seats, full stop. A school run with three kids in the back works fine. A family of six with grandparents along does not, and that's the line where you should size up to a seven-seat SUV.

How the 2.0 engine actually drives in Dubai

Honesty first: the 2.0-litre is the relaxed end of this car's range. At 112 hp it gets five people and luggage moving without drama around town, and the automatic shifts smoothly through stop-and-go on Al Wasl or Jumeirah Beach Road. Where you notice the modest power is the highway. A 0-100 km/h time just over 11 seconds means overtaking on the E11 wants a bit of planning, especially fully loaded. Build your speed early and leave room, and it cruises at 120 km/h perfectly happily.

For city life and airport runs this engine is plenty. If you want shove for fast highway overtakes with a full car, this isn't the trim that delivers it, and that's a fair trade for the running cost.

Fuel, refuelling and running cost

The 54-litre tank and roughly 8.5 L/100 km in mixed Dubai driving give you close to 600 km between fills, which works out to one fuel stop a week for most renters and sometimes none if you stay inside the city. Petrol here is cheap, so the Tucson costs little to keep moving, part of why it's one of the stronger value picks in its size.

Heat, AC and the Dubai summer

In June and July a car parked in the open hits oven temperatures, and the Tucson handles it better than most in its class. The large cabin takes a minute or two longer to cool than a small hatch, but the front vents push hard and there are rear vents for passengers in the back, which matters with kids strapped in behind you. Set it to recirculate, give it a couple of minutes after pickup, and it's comfortable before you've cleared the first set of lights.

Parking, speed bumps and city manoeuvres

For an SUV the Tucson is easy to place. The reversing camera and sensors make tight multi-storey bays and Marina parking straightforward, and the high seating gives a clear view over traffic. At 192 mm of clearance it clears Dubai's tall speed bumps and steep mall ramps without scraping, while staying easy to swing through a U-turn.

Salik, fines and the rules

Salik tolls run on your account during the rental, and any RTA fines pass to the renter, so watch the speed cameras along Sheikh Zayed Road. Seatbelts are required in every seat, and children under four need a child seat, which we can supply with the car.

Who should rent it, and who shouldn't

Rent the Tucson 2024 if you want a striking, comfortable family SUV with a big boot and modern tech for a week of city driving, mall runs and airport pickups, and you're happy with a calm rather than quick engine. For two adults plus kids and a stack of luggage, it's one of the smartest value choices in its class.

Look elsewhere in two cases. If you'll regularly seat six or seven, size up to a seven-seat SUV instead of squeezing in. And if it's just you running quick errands and parking in the tightest of bays, a small hatchback is cheaper and easier. For everyone in between, the latest Tucson is an easy car to recommend.
