Most of a Dubai rental week happens on the move between Sheikh Zayed Road, the school gate and the mall basement, and the Hyundai Tucson 2024 is a calm, comfortable companion for all of it. We include 250 km a day, more headroom than most desks give, so a cross-town brunch, a beach afternoon and a school run all fit inside one day's allowance without you watching the odometer. This is the current, sharp-suited generation of the compact SUV, and we deliver it to your door in Dubai. The point of this page is to be straight about how it drives, so you can decide if a relaxed cruiser is what your week needs.
Honesty first: the 2.0-litre is the relaxed end of this car. Its 150 hp gets five people and luggage moving without drama around town, and the automatic shifts smoothly through stop-and-go on Al Wasl or Jumeirah Beach Road. Where you feel the modest power is the highway. Overtaking on the E11 with a full car wants a bit of planning, so build your speed early and leave room, and it then holds 120 km/h perfectly happily. For city life and airport runs this engine is plenty, and the calm delivery is part of why it's cheap to run. If you want shove for fast highway overtakes with the car loaded, this isn't the trim that gives it, and that's a fair trade for the running cost.
Front-wheel drive makes it a road SUV. It's at home on the highway and in mall car parks, not on the dunes, so book a proper 4x4 if a Hatta trail or soft sand is on your plan.
Step inside and the newer design carries through. The dash runs two wide displays side by side, one for the instruments and one for the touchscreen, and the column shifter frees up a deep console tray for phones and keys. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are there, so your maps plug straight in for the drive south. It looks modern and it's genuinely practical: four adults sit comfortably, a fifth fits across the back, and the seats stay soft through a 40-minute crawl in traffic.

The 54-litre tank with roughly 8.5 L/100 km in mixed Dubai driving gives you close to 600 km between fills, which works out to one fuel stop a week for most renters and sometimes none if you stay inside the city. Petrol here is cheap, so the Tucson costs little to keep moving, part of why it's one of the stronger value picks in its size. Salik tolls and any RTA fines pass to you as the renter, so watch the gates and the speed cameras along Sheikh Zayed Road.
The boot is one of the real reasons to pick this car. With the rear seats up you get around 540 litres, enough for two large suitcases plus a couple of cabin bags, so a family flying into DXB or DWC loads the cases in the back without anyone riding with a bag on their lap. Drop the rear seats and it opens into a near-flat floor for flat-pack furniture or a week's shopping. It's five seats though: a school run with three kids works fine, a family of six with grandparents along does not, and that's where you should size up to a seven-seat SUV.
In June and July a car parked in the open hits oven temperatures, and the Tucson handles it better than most in its class. The large cabin takes a minute or two longer to cool than a small hatch, but the front vents push hard and there are rear vents for passengers behind you, which matters with kids strapped in. Set it to recirculate, give it a couple of minutes after pickup, and it's comfortable before you've cleared the first set of lights.
For an SUV the Tucson is easy to place. The reversing camera and sensors make tight multi-storey bays and Marina parking straightforward, and the high seating gives a clear view over traffic. At 192 mm of clearance it clears Dubai's tall speed bumps and steep mall ramps without scraping, while staying easy to swing through a U-turn. One housekeeping line that applies to any rental here: seat belts are required in every seat, and children under four need a child seat, which we can supply with the car.
Rent the Tucson 2024 if you want a striking, comfortable family SUV with a big boot and modern tech for a week of city driving, mall runs and airport pickups, and you're happy with a calm rather than quick engine. For two adults plus kids and a stack of luggage, it's one of the smartest value choices in its class.
Look elsewhere in two cases. If you'll regularly seat six or seven, size up to a seven-seat SUV instead of squeezing in. And if it's just you running quick errands and parking in the tightest of bays, a small hatchback is cheaper and easier. For everyone in between, the latest Tucson is an easy car to recommend.
