The Hyundai Tucson 2023 is the sensible family SUV we hand over most often to people who want room without stepping up to a big body-on-frame 4x4, and yes, it rents in Dubai with delivery to your door. We include a generous 250 km a day, which is more headroom than most desks give, so a school run, a mall trip and a beach afternoon all fit inside one day's allowance without you watching the odometer. This page is about one decision: whether the Tucson is the right all-rounder for your week, or whether your group and luggage push you toward something bigger or cheaper.
For a five-seat SUV in this price band, the Tucson gets the basics right. The cabin is wide, the back seat is genuinely comfortable for two adults or three kids, and the boot swallows a week's worth of cases. It's the car we suggest when a couple wants more than a hatchback but doesn't need seven seats.
This is the 2.0-litre petrol Tucson, front-wheel drive, with a conventional automatic gearbox. Front-wheel drive matters for one reason: this is a soft-road SUV, not a desert tool. It's at home on Sheikh Zayed Road, in mall car parks and on the airport run. It is not the car for dune tracks or a Hatta off-road trail, and we'd steer you to a proper 4x4 for that.

The 150 hp output is enough, not exciting. Around town and at the 100 to 120 km/h cruise you'll spend most of your week at, it pulls cleanly and stays quiet. Push for a quick overtake on the E11 with the car loaded and you'll notice the engine working harder than a turbo rival would. For a family SUV bought to cover distance calmly rather than sprint, that's a fair trade.
Comfortably, for most trips. The Tucson's boot is one of the larger ones in this class, and it takes two large hard cases plus a couple of soft bags without folding anything down. Four adults flying in with a big suitcase each will fit their luggage, which is exactly where smaller crossovers start to struggle. Drop the rear seats and you've got a flat, long load space for furniture runs or a flat-pack from the store. For an airport collection at DXB or DWC with a full car, this is the size that actually works.
The 54-litre tank is the number that matters here. On a real week of Dubai driving, mostly city traffic with some highway, expect the 2.0 petrol to return somewhere around 9 to 11 litres per 100 km. The official combined figure sits lower, near 8, but Dubai heat, constant AC load and stop-start traffic push real consumption up, and we'd rather tell you that than quote a lab number you won't see. That works out to a genuine range of roughly 500 to 600 km per tank. For most renters that's one fill-up across a week of normal use, maybe two if you're doing daily highway distance. Salik tolls and any RTA fines are charged to you as the renter, so keep that in mind when you map out your routes.
This is the real test for any car in Dubai, and the Tucson handles it well. The cabin is large, so a car left in the sun at 45 degrees takes a minute or two longer to cool than a small hatch, but the AC is strong and there are rear vents, which keeps kids in the back seat happy on a long drive. By the time you're out of the car park and onto the road, the cabin is comfortable. We'd still tell you to drop the windows for the first thirty seconds in peak summer to dump the worst of the heat before the AC catches up.
At 4.63 metres long, the Tucson is a mid-size SUV, not a small one, so tight multi-storey bays and a Marina ramp take a bit more care than a Picanto would. A reversing camera and sensors make it manageable, and the raised seating height gives you a clear view over traffic. Ground clearance of 192 mm is the quiet win for daily Dubai driving: community speed bumps, mall ramps and raised car-park entries that scrape a low sedan are a non-issue here. You sit high, you see well, and nothing catches underneath.
A brief note on the rules: seat belts are mandatory in every seat, and children under four need a child seat, which we can fit on request.
Rent the Tucson if you're a couple or a small family who wants space, a high driving position and a big boot, and you're spending most of the week on city roads and the highway. It's the comfortable middle: more car than a hatchback, easier to park and cheaper to run than a full-size SUV, and big enough for an airport run with everyone's luggage.
Look elsewhere in two cases. If you need seven seats or you're regularly carrying more than four adults, size up to a larger SUV. And if your week is built around desert driving or off-road tracks, the front-wheel-drive Tucson isn't the tool for it, so book a proper 4x4 instead. For everyone in between, this is the car we'd put you in.
