For the money, few SUVs stretch a Dubai rental week as far as the Hyundai Tucson 2023, and we bring one to your door in one to two hours of booking. The case for it is value: a roomy, modern five-seat SUV that's cheap to fuel, easy to live with, and rents for far less than the premium badges it sits alongside in a hotel forecourt. We run the 2.0 petrol automatic with front-wheel drive, and this page is about whether that sensible setup is the right fit for your week, or whether you'd be better served sizing the engine, or the car, up.
Start with the number that decides most rentals: fuel. The 54-litre tank at around 8 L/100 km gives you close to 670 km of range on paper, though stop-start traffic and the AC working hard in summer will push real economy a bit higher. For most renters that still means one fill covers several days of city driving plus an airport run or two. Petrol is cheap here, so the Tucson barely dents the budget once you're on the road.
The costs that are genuinely yours to manage are Salik and fines. Toll gantries are billed to the renter as you pass them, and any RTA fine during the rental passes to you as well, so watch the gates on the way to DXB and the cameras on Sheikh Zayed Road. We include 250 km a day with extra kilometres at 1 AED each, headroom enough that a normal day of errands never has you counting.

The 2.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol is the unstressed half of this car, and you should book it knowing what that means. Its 150 hp is enough rather than exciting. Around town and on a steady cruise it's smooth and quiet, exactly what you want for school runs and mall trips. Ask for a hard overtake on the E11 and it needs a moment to gather itself, because there's no turbo waiting to help. A 0 to 100 time near 11.5 seconds tells the story plainly: relaxed, not quick.
That's the right trade for a value rental. You're paying less to rent and less to fuel, and in return you drive a car that prefers calm to urgency. If your week is mostly fast highway work with a full load, a turbo SUV will suit you better.
Where the 2023 Tucson punches above its rate is inside. The dashboard runs nearly wing to wing, the centre screen handles Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the driver gets a digital instrument display rather than old analogue dials. A note on honesty: cabin materials and exact screen sizes vary by grade, so we won't promise a specific configuration. What's consistent is the smartphone mirroring most renters actually use, and a layout that feels a class above the price. Four adults sit comfortably, with proper rear space rather than an afterthought bench.
July sun turns any parked car brutal, and a larger cabin takes a minute longer to recover than a small hatch. The Tucson's AC earns its keep here. Front vents push hard, rear vents keep back-seat passengers from cooking on a longer run, and a couple of minutes on recirculate after pickup brings a 45-degree interior down to bearable. Start it early before you load kids in. With under-fours you'll need a child seat by law, which we can supply, and belts are mandatory in every seat.
Parking is the other daily reality, and the Tucson is easy here. The camera and sensors make tight bays and Marina ramps simple, the high seat helps you judge corners, and 192 mm of clearance rides over speed bumps and mall ramps that catch lower cars.
At 540 litres the boot is a real strength. Two large suitcases and a couple of soft bags load without a fight, which makes this a sensible airport-collection car for a family of four. Fold the rear seats and the floor opens nearly flat for bulkier loads.
Rent the Tucson 2023 if you want maximum SUV for your money: a comfortable, modern five-seater that's cheap to run and arrives feeling more expensive than it is. It's the right call for a couple or a family of four chasing value over outright pace. If you need a third row, take a seven-seater. And if you want urgency under your right foot for hard highway overtaking, the naturally aspirated engine will feel leisurely, so size up to a turbo SUV. For everyone after a sensible, good-value week, this is an easy car to recommend.
