A week of Dubai driving on a single fill is the quiet appeal of the Hyundai Tucson 2021, and we rent it to drivers from 18 in Dubai when most desks make you wait until 23. The 62-litre tank on this generation is bigger than the newer car's, so you spend less of your week hunting for a petrol station and more of it actually using the car. This is the Tucson from before the 2022 redesign, the softer-looking one, and that's exactly why it rents for less while still giving you real SUV space and ride height. The decision this page helps you make is simple: whether the value play is the right call, or whether you should pay up for the newer model.
The headline number here is the 62-litre tank, larger than the 54 litres in the redesigned Tucson. Drive mostly in city traffic, with the AC working hard in the heat, and you'll see real consumption around 9 to 10 L/100 km, not the lower lab figure. Mix in some highway and that stretches to roughly 650 to 700 km on a tank. For most renters that's a single fuel stop across a week of errands, two only if you're doing airport runs every day. Petrol here is cheap to begin with, so a Tucson that goes further between fills is one less small chore in your week.
The 2021 is the previous-generation shape. Hyundai gave the car a dramatic restyle from 2022, all sharp creases and hidden lights, so this one looks more conventional next to it, and that's the main reason it sits at a lower rate. You don't lose what matters for a rental. The cabin is the same honest five-seater, the driving position is high and easy, and the 2.0-litre is the same unfussy engine Hyundai ran for years. What you give up is showroom newness and a few cabin gadgets the redesign added, none of which change how the car does its job over a Dubai week.

Boot space is the first thing people ask, and this Tucson answers it well for the class. About 513 litres behind the rear seats takes two large hard cases and a couple of soft bags without folding anything, which covers a family of four landing at DXB. Drop the rear seats and you get a flat floor for flat-pack furniture or a bike. Four adults sit in comfort; a fifth in the middle is fine for a short hop across town, less so for a long highway leg. The high seating is the quiet advantage, since getting kids into their seats is easier than in a sedan and the view out helps in heavy traffic.
This decides a summer rental, so here's the honest version. Park it in the sun for a few hours and the cabin turns brutal, the same as any car here. The 2.0-litre's air conditioning is a strong, conventional system rather than a luxury climate setup, and it pulls a baked cabin down to comfortable in roughly five to ten minutes once you're moving. Crack the windows for the first minute to dump the worst heat, then let it run. There are rear vents for back-seat passengers, which matters with kids on the school run or a full car heading to the airport.
At 4.48 metres it's a mid-size SUV, slightly shorter than the newer Tucson, so tight bays in older Marina towers ask for a bit of care rather than a lot. The 172 mm of clearance handles Dubai's aggressive speed bumps and mall ramps without scraping, and the high stance is reassuring on rougher community roads. On Sheikh Zayed Road and the E11 it cruises calmly. The 150 hp engine isn't quick, and a heavy overtake at speed needs a moment of planning, but it settles into a relaxed 120 km/h without drama. It's a comfortable highway car, not a fast one, and front-wheel drive means it's a road SUV, not one for the dunes.
A quick note on the rules: the renter covers Salik tolls and any RTA fines, seat belts are mandatory in every seat, and children under four need a child seat, which we can fit on request.
Rent the Tucson 2021 if you want genuine SUV space and ride height for a family week at a lower rate than the newer car, you like the idea of a bigger tank and fewer fuel stops, and renting from 18 makes the decision easy. It's the value pick in this class: roomy, comfortable and cheap to run.
Skip it if you care about the latest design and cabin tech, or if you regularly need quick overtaking power on the highway, in which case the redesigned Tucson or a turbo crossover is the better spend. And if your group is six or more, this is a five-seater, so size up to a seven-seat SUV instead.
