Most of the people booking the Hyundai Tucson 2021 off our desk in Dubai are doing the maths. They want a real five-seat SUV for a family week, but they don't want to pay current-generation money for it, and they'd rather not hand over a deposit at all. We deliver this one to your door in Dubai with the no-deposit option on the table, so nothing is locked up on your card while you drive. That trade is the whole point of this car: it's the previous-generation Tucson, the one before the sharp 2022 redesign, which is exactly why it rents for less while still giving you the space and the ride height a sedan can't.
So the argument here is simple. If you need an SUV's room and seating position for errands, school runs and the odd airport trip, but the price of a newer crossover makes you hesitate, this is the sensible pick. Here's where it fits and where it doesn't.
The 2021 Tucson is the older shape. Hyundai gave the car a dramatic restyle from 2022, all sharp creases and hidden lights, so the 2021 looks softer and more conventional next to it. That's the main reason it sits at a lower rate. You don't lose what matters for a rental, though. The cabin is the same honest five-seater, the driving position is high and easy, and the 2.0-litre engine is the same unfussy unit Hyundai has run for years. What you give up is showroom newness and a few cabin gadgets the newer car added, none of which change how the car does its job over a Dubai week.
| Class / body | Economy SUV |
|---|---|
| Seats | 5 |
| Engine | 2.0-litre petrol |
| Power | 150 hp |
| Drivetrain | Front-wheel drive |
| Transmission | 6-speed automatic |
| Fuel economy (real-world city) | around 9 to 10 L/100 km |
| Tank | 62 litres |
| Range (mixed driving) | roughly 650 to 700 km |
| Dimensions L x W x H | 4480 x 1850 x 1660 mm |
| Ground clearance | 172 mm |
| Boot (seats up) | about 513 litres |
| Colour | Blue (subject to availability) |
Numbers on a sheet only matter when they settle a question, so let me read the ones that do.
Boot space is the first thing people ask, and the Tucson answers it well for the class. About 513 litres behind the rear seats takes two large hard cases and a couple of soft bags without folding anything down, which covers a family of four landing at DXB. Drop the rear seats and you've got a flat load floor for flat-pack furniture or a bike. Four adults sit in comfort; a fifth in the middle rear is fine for a short hop across town, less so for a long highway run. The high seating position is the quiet advantage here, since getting kids into seats is easier than in a sedan and the view out helps in heavy traffic.
This is the question that actually decides a summer rental in Dubai, so be honest about it. Park the Tucson in the sun for a few hours and the cabin gets brutal, same as any car here. The 2.0-litre's air conditioning is a strong, conventional system, not a luxury climate setup, and it pulls a baked cabin down to comfortable in roughly five to ten minutes once you're moving. Crack the windows for the first minute to dump the worst heat, then let it run. There are rear vents for back-seat passengers, which matters with kids on the school run or a full car heading to the airport.
At 4.48 metres long it's a mid-size SUV, not a small one, so tight multi-storey bays in older Marina towers ask for a bit of care. Nothing punishing, just don't expect to thread it like a hatchback. The 172 mm of ground clearance clears Dubai's aggressive speed bumps and mall ramps without scraping, and the high stance is reassuring on rougher community roads.
On Sheikh Zayed Road and the E11 the Tucson cruises calmly. The 150 hp engine isn't quick, and a heavy overtake at speed needs a moment of planning, but it settles into a relaxed 120 km/h without drama. It's a comfortable highway car, not a fast one.
The 62-litre tank is generous for the class. Drive mostly in city traffic and you'll see something close to 9 to 10 litres per 100 km in the real heat, not the lower lab figure, which still gives a comfortable week of errands between fills. Mixed city and highway gets you somewhere around 650 to 700 km on a tank. For most renters that's one fuel stop across a week, two if you're doing airport runs daily.
The renter covers Salik tolls and any RTA fines during the rental, so keep an eye on toll gates and speed limits. Seat belts are mandatory in every seat, and children under four need a proper child seat, which we can fit on request. Basic insurance comes standard.
Rent the Hyundai Tucson 2021 if you want genuine SUV space and ride height for a family week in Dubai at a lower rate than the newer model, and the no-deposit, doorstep delivery makes the decision easy. It's the value play in this class: roomy, comfortable, easy to live with.
Skip it if you care about having the latest design and cabin tech, or if you regularly need quick overtaking power on the highway. In that case the 2023 Tucson or a turbo crossover is the better spend. And if your group is six or more, this is a five-seater, so size up to a seven-seat SUV instead.
