Push it hard to overtake at 120 on the E11 and you'll notice it's working, especially with the car full and the AC on max. Plan your overtakes a beat earlier and it's a non-issue. Keeping cool when it's 45 outside

A parked Tucson in July is an oven, like any car here. The good news is the front vents push hard and the cabin isn't huge, so the air pulls down within a few minutes of pulling away. Crack the windows for the first thirty seconds to dump the worst of the heat, then close up and let it run. Rear passengers get vents at the back of the centre console, which matters if you're carrying kids or adults in the back on a long airport trip. For a five-seat cabin this size, the cooling is one of the car's quieter strengths.

Boot space and whether your luggage fits

This is where the older Tucson earns its keep. The boot is genuinely useful: two large suitcases plus a couple of soft bags sit in with the rear seats up, which covers a family arriving at DXB or DWC with a week's worth of cases. Drop the rear seats and you've got a flat, long load space for bulky buys or sports kit. If you're four adults with four big cases, it's still fine, where a hatchback would have you stacking bags on laps.

Parking, ramps and speed bumps

At about 4.48 metres long it's compact enough for tight multi-storey bays and the curling ramps at Marina towers and the malls. U-turns are easy with the light steering.
