We bring the Hyundai Tucson 2020 to your door in Dubai in one to two hours, so the SUV turns up where you are rather than you queuing at a rental counter. This is the pre-facelift generation, a five-seat compact SUV that sits a family higher than a sedan, swallows a real week of luggage, and drives without fuss on the school run or the airport dash. It rents at a sensible rate, which is most of its appeal. What it asks in return is honesty about an engine that's relaxed rather than quick, and a cabin that's plainer than the newest Tucson. This page is here to tell you whether that trade works for your week.
Think of it as the safe middle choice. A couple with two kids, a small group splitting a week of errands, a tourist who wants a tall driving position without paying for a big body-on-frame 4x4. You get the commanding view and the easy boot of an SUV at close to hatchback money.
It's front-wheel drive only here, so treat it as a road car. It handles a graded track to a campsite, but it isn't built for soft dune work. If your plan is serious off-road, that's a different rental.
The Tucson's strongest card is space. The boot holds roughly 513 litres with all five seats up, which in real terms means two large suitcases plus a couple of soft bags standing upright, or a full Carrefour shop without playing Tetris. Fold the rear bench and you open up the kind of flat load floor that takes flat-pack furniture or a bicycle.
Five adults fit for a city trip, though the middle rear seat is the usual short-straw perch on a long run. Headroom is good front and back, a benefit of the boxier older shape. There are rear air vents on the back of the centre console, which matters more in Dubai than the spec sheet suggests.
Park this anywhere uncovered in July and the cabin will be brutal when you open the door. The Tucson's AC is conventional but effective: give the front vents two to three minutes on full and the cabin drops to comfortable, and the rear vents mean kids in the back aren't waiting on cold air rolling back from the dash. It's a normal climate system in a roomy cabin, not a luxury setup, but it copes with a 45C afternoon without drama.
Around town the Tucson is easy. Light steering, a high seat, good glass, and a turning circle that handles mall ramps and multi-storey bays without a three-point shuffle. At 172 mm of ground clearance it clears speed bumps and Marina car-park ramps cleanly, so you're not wincing at every threshold.
On Sheikh Zayed Road it's settled and quiet at a cruise. The honest caveat is the engine. The 2.0-litre makes 150 horsepower through an automatic gearbox, which is fine for keeping pace and merging, but ask for a hard overtake at 120 with the car loaded and it takes a breath before it responds. Plan your moves a little earlier and it's a relaxed highway companion. Just don't expect it to feel quick.
For an airport run to DXB or DWC, two cases and a stroller go in the boot and there's still room on the back seat. That's the use case this car nails.
The 62-litre tank is generous for the class. Driven sensibly in mixed Dubai use, expect somewhere around 9 to 10 litres per 100 km in the real world, more if you sit in Business Bay crawl, which works out to most of a week between fill-ups for an average tourist's mileage. The included 250 km a day covers nearly anything inside the city and a comfortable day out toward Hatta or Abu Dhabi.
A few costs ride with you, not us. Salik tolls are billed to the renter, so each gantry on the way through Al Garhoud or down SZR adds up. Any RTA speeding or parking fine during your rental is yours too. Seat belts are mandatory in every seat, and children under four need a proper child seat, which we can fit on request.

Rent this Tucson if you want a roomy, no-drama SUV for a Dubai week and you care more about boot space, an easy drive and a fair rate than about straight-line speed or the latest cabin tech. For two adults, a couple of kids and a full load of bags, it's one of the value picks that just works.
Size up if you're carrying six or seven people or need a third row, in which case a proper seven-seat SUV is the call. Size down to a hatchback if it's only one or two of you on short city errands and the higher view doesn't earn its keep. And if you genuinely want to head into the dunes, skip the front-wheel-drive Tucson and take something with all-wheel drive. For everyone in the middle, this is a sound, sensible booking.
