Haval Jolion 2023 - start from 174 AED / day

For the money, the 2023 Haval Jolion gives you more equipment and more cabin than almost anything else in its rental bracket, and we hand one over to drivers from age 18 when most of the Dubai market won't rent to anyone under 21. That alone makes the Jolion 2023 worth a look if you're young, in town for a week, and tired of being told to come back at 21. The real question isn't whether it's loaded, because it is. It's whether you're renting on value and space, or whether a sharper drive matters more to you. This page is about that trade.

What the rate actually buys you

The Jolion's pitch is simple: a compact SUV with a big-car features list at an economy price. You sit high, the touchscreen is large, the cabin trim looks a class above the badge, and there's room for five without anyone fighting for knees. At 4472 mm long it's a proper small SUV, not a jacked-up hatch, and that length shows in rear-seat legroom and a boot that swallows real luggage. One large case plus soft bags is no problem.

So if your week in Dubai is errands, mall runs, a couple of airport pickups and the occasional drive out of town with the family, the Jolion covers it and leaves money in your pocket. You're paying for kit and space, not badge or speed.

The honest bit: how it drives

This is where you decide. The 1.5 turbo makes 150 hp, enough to keep up with traffic and merge onto Sheikh Zayed Road without drama, but it's not quick. Zero to 100 takes a touch under 10 seconds, and the Jolion runs out of enthusiasm well before its 185 km/h top speed means anything. For city pace and highway cruising it's fine. For overtaking a slow lorry on the E11 with a full car, you plan ahead.

The bigger thing to know is the gearbox. It's a 7-speed dual-clutch, and at crawling speeds, the kind you get stuck in around Downtown or on a packed Marina ramp, it can feel hesitant pulling away, with a slight lurch as the clutches catch. It's not a fault. It's how this type of transmission behaves in stop-and-go heat. Once you're moving it settles and shifts cleanly. If a smooth, completely fuss-free low-speed crawl is what you care about most, a conventional automatic like a Corolla Cross or a Creta will feel more relaxed, and you should rent one of those instead.

Heat, AC and a parked cabin at 45

Dubai's real test isn't the road, it's a car that's been baking in a summer car park. The Jolion's AC is strong up front and pulls a hot cabin down to comfortable in a few minutes once you're rolling with the fans up. There are rear vents, so back-seat passengers and child seats aren't left to suffer. Park in shade where you can, crack the windows for the first thirty seconds to dump the worst of the heat, and the system handles the rest. For a car at this price, the cooling is genuinely good.

Parking, bumps and city size

At 1841 mm wide the Jolion is a small SUV, not a tank, and it slots into standard mall and tower bays without a struggle. The high seating and large windows help you place it on tight multi-storey ramps and during U-turns. Ground clearance is 168 mm, which clears Dubai's speed bumps and mall entrance ramps comfortably. It won't scrape on a Marina ramp the way a low sedan does. Don't read SUV stance as off-road ability, though. This is front-wheel drive built for tarmac, so keep it off soft sand and out of the dunes.

Fuel, range and the toll stuff

Expect around 12 km per litre in mixed city driving, less if you sit in heavy traffic with the AC on full, which in summer you will. The 55-litre tank gives you a real-world range in the 680 to 730 km bracket, so a normal week of Dubai driving needs roughly one fill, maybe two if you're commuting across the city daily. That's an easy car to live with on fuel.

A few rules that are on you, not us. Salik tolls run on the renter's account, so every gantry you pass through gets billed to the rental. Any RTA fines during your hire pass to you as well, so watch the speed cameras. Seatbelts are required in every seat, and children under four need a proper child seat, which we can fit before delivery if you ask.

Who should rent it, and who shouldn't

Rent the Jolion 2023 if you want the most car for the fewest dirhams: a roomy five-seat SUV with a big screen, comfortable seats, strong AC and an easy week of city and airport driving, especially if you're 18 to 20 and locked out of most other counters. It's a value play and a good one.

Skip it if low-speed smoothness or quick, confident overtaking sits at the top of your list. The DCT's crawl manners and the modest mid-range mean a Corolla Cross, Creta or Kia Seltos will feel more polished on the move, and those are the ones to ask for instead. For everyone whose priority is space and kit per dirham, the Jolion is hard to beat at this rate.
