Haval H6 2024 - start from 169 AED / day

More people upgrade into a Haval H6 2024 at the kerb than into any other SUV on our fleet, and it is nearly always the same story. Four passengers, a week of luggage, and a compact crossover that took two cases and then ran out of boot. Because we deliver in one to two hours, that swap usually happens the same morning it goes wrong. What the H6 sells in Dubai is simple enough: mid-size SUV room at an economy rate, with the extra size being real rather than styling. Whether you need that size, and what it costs you back in the car park, is the decision this page is here to settle.

The boot is the honest reason to book one

Six hundred litres with the rear seats up is a lot for the money. Two large hard cases stand upright with space beside them for a pushchair or a stack of soft bags, so a family of four collecting from DXB loads once and drives away instead of holding a negotiation about what rides on somebody's lap. Drop the bench and the H6 takes furniture or a bicycle.

For scale, Haval's own smaller crossover, the Jolion, gives you 337 litres. The H6 nearly doubles it, and that gap is the clearest thing your extra daily rate buys. If your week involves little luggage, you are paying for space you will drive around empty.

Five seats that are actually five seats

The 2,738 mm wheelbase does the work here. An adult sits behind another adult without anyone reaching forward to adjust a seat, which is not something you can say about most crossovers renting near this rate. The middle rear seat is usable for a short run across town, though on a long airport haul the fifth passenger will feel like the fifth passenger.

Then there is the part of the year that decides how a car feels. Park an H6 in the open in August and it bakes like everything else in the row. What matters is recovery, and the front vents pull hard once you are moving with the fans up, bringing a punished cabin back to sensible within a few minutes. Rear vents mean nobody in the back waits on the front seats to feel better first. It is a large cabin to cool, though, so it takes longer than a hatchback would. Drop the windows for the first half minute to dump the trapped air, then let the system work while you drive.

What a week in one really costs

The claimed figure is 6.7 L/100 km. Treat that as a laboratory number. In real Dubai use, with the air conditioning working and plenty of stop-and-start, expect nearer 10 L/100 km, which turns the 60-litre tank into roughly 600 km of range. A normal week of school runs, office trips and mall parking needs one fill.

One thing to be clear about before you book. The UAE also sells an H6 HEV, a different car with a different gearbox and hybrid consumption figures to match. The H6 we hand over is the petrol version, so budget your fuel on the numbers above.

Every rental includes 300 km a day, which no ordinary week of city driving comes close to using, and it is AED 0.5 for each kilometre beyond that. Salik charges run to you at every gantry, and any RTA fine raised during the hire passes to you as well. Children under four need a proper child seat, and we will fit one before delivery if you ask.

Relaxed on the E11, harder work in a multi-storey

The 2.0-litre turbo makes 201 hp and 320 Nm, and it is genuinely strong for this class. Merging onto Sheikh Zayed Road with five aboard and a full boot takes no planning at all, and the car sits at 120 quietly enough that a long airport run passes without anybody raising their voice. Overtaking is a matter of asking rather than waiting.

The seven-speed dual-clutch is the compromise. Rolling along it is smooth and quick, but at crawling pace, the kind you get on a packed ramp or in evening traffic, it hesitates for a beat before it takes up drive. That is how this type of gearbox behaves rather than a fault, and most renters have stopped noticing by the second day. If your week is nothing but gridlock and a smooth crawl matters to you, tell us and take something with a conventional automatic instead.

Size is the other trade. At 1,886 mm wide and 4,653 mm long, the H6 needs more thought in an older multi-storey than a small crossover does, and the 12 metre turning circle turns some tight bays into a two-shot manoeuvre. The high seating position and the parking aids make it easy enough to place, so this is inconvenience rather than difficulty. Ground clearance of 170 mm clears speed bumps and steep mall entrances without the scrape a low sedan makes.

On the drivetrain, do not assume. Haval sold the 2024 H6 in both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, so if that matters to your plans, ask us which one you are getting rather than reading the badge. Either way it is not a sand car. The all-wheel-drive system is built for wet tarmac and loose gravel, not soft dune.

Who should take it, and who should save the money

Take the H6 if you are carrying four or five people and their luggage for a week, want a quiet highway car for airport runs, and would rather spend your money on space and equipment than on badge. On that brief it is one of the better value rentals we run, and we hand one over from age 18 when most Dubai desks will not deal with you before 21.

If it is two of you and a couple of bags, the Jolion does the same job for less and parks more easily. If refinement is what you are actually paying for, a RAV4-class mainstream SUV gives you a smoother gearbox and quieter progress for more money, and on a week of daily gridlock that is money well spent. Ask for one by name and we will sort it. For room, pace and equipment against the rate, though, the H6 is hard to beat.
