Geely Okavango 2025 - start from 160 AED / day

Need a seven-seater that doesn't tie up half your trip budget? That's the case the Geely Okavango 2025 makes, and we rent it across Dubai with 250 km a day built into the rate, so a week of school runs, mall trips and the odd airport pickup won't have you watching the odometer. It seats seven, comes loaded for a budget crossover, and undercuts the established three-row names by a clear margin. The catch is honest: a small turbo engine is hauling a big body, and the third row suits kids more than grown adults. This page is here to tell you when the Okavango is the smart pick and when you should spend up for a proven seven-seater instead.

What you're actually renting

The Okavango is a big family crossover built around a 2-3-2 seven-seat layout. Power comes from a 1.5-litre turbo three-cylinder paired with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system, sending 190 hp to the front wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. That's a lot of seats for not much engine, and it's the honest framing for the whole car. It moves a full load fine, it just doesn't pretend to be quick seven-up with luggage on an incline.

Does my family and luggage fit?

This is the question that should decide it. Five people travel in real comfort: two up front, three across a middle bench that's genuinely wide. The third row is the usual seven-seat compromise. It's fine for two kids or for adults on a short hop across town, but nobody over about 5'8" will thank you for the airport run back there.

Luggage is where you do the maths. With all seven seats up you get 257 litres behind the third row, which swallows a couple of soft bags or a week's groceries, not a full set of hard cases. Drop the third row and you have a deep, square hold that takes the big suitcases for a family of five with room to spare. If you need both the third row and the boot full at the same time, the Okavango is tight, as most seven-seaters in this price band are. Fold the back when you need cargo and it works well.

The engine, honestly

A 1.5-litre triple moving this much car is doing real work in Dubai heat. Around the city it's smooth and quiet enough, and the mild-hybrid assist smooths the low-speed shuffle of the dual-clutch box in traffic. The 9.6-second 0-100 figure is for a light load. Pack it with people and bags and merging onto Sheikh Zayed Road takes more planning, so leave a longer gap and let the gearbox sort itself out before you commit to the overtake. It cruises at E11 speeds happily; it just isn't built to surge past everything at 120.

On fuel, set expectations to reality. The mild hybrid trims consumption in stop-start traffic, but a heavy seven-seater in 45-degree heat with the AC working hard will not sip. Expect to refill the 52-litre tank once a week of normal city use, more if you're doing daily long highway runs. Plan a fill, not a panic.

Heat, cooling and the rows

Every cabin this size lives or dies on how fast it cools after a few hours in a Dubai car park, and the Okavango's AC is up to it. Front and middle rows get strong airflow, and dedicated rear vents feed the back of the cabin, which matters with kids in the third row in July. Crack the windows for ten seconds before you set off and the system pulls a baking cabin down to comfortable within a few minutes. It's not a luxury climate suite, but for the money the cooling is one of the car's stronger points.

Parking, ramps and Dubai roads

At 4.84 metres long it's a sizeable thing, longer than it looks, so tight multi-storey bays and a Marina garage ramp need a bit of care. A reversing camera takes the stress out of the daily park. The 194 mm ground clearance is generous for a road crossover, so speed bumps, raised mall ramps and the lip into a sandy parking lot won't have you wincing. This is front-wheel drive only, though, so treat it as a tall family car, not a dune machine. Soft sand is a recovery call, not an adventure.

The usual Dubai rules apply and they're brief. Salik tolls run on the renter's account, and any RTA fines during your hire pass to you. Seatbelts are mandatory in every row, and children under four need a proper child seat, worth sorting before the airport pickup rather than after.

Who should rent it, and who shouldn't

Rent the Okavango if you're a family of five or six who wants three rows and modern kit at a low daily rate, mostly city and highway cruising, with the occasional seventh seat for a child. For that brief it's good value and genuinely practical, and the included 250 km a day means a busy week doesn't run up extra-distance charges.

Size up or pick a rival if you regularly carry seven adults, do long high-speed highway stints fully loaded, or want the resale-proven reliability and stronger pull of an established name. A Mitsubishi Xpander sits in similar money with a simpler reputation, and a Toyota Innova or a larger SUV gives you a third row adults can actually live in and an engine that isn't working as hard. Pay the difference if a full-load airport run twice a week is your real use case. For everything short of that, the Okavango is the cheaper sensible seven-seater, and we'll have it at your door in one to two hours.
