Gac Gs3 2024 - start from 180 AED / day

We'll have a GAC GS3 Emzoom 2024 at your door anywhere in Dubai within one to two hours, and you can take it with no deposit, paying by debit card or cash at handover. On a compact SUV at this rate that's worth more than it sounds, because the usual alternative is a chunk of your card limit locked up for a week you're meant to be enjoying. The car itself is a 1.5 turbo crossover carrying more pace and kit than the daily figure suggests. Our position is simple. Rent it if it's you, a partner and a normal week of city driving. Four adults with real luggage should size up.

What a week of driving actually costs

The tank holds 47 litres, which is small for an SUV, and that's the number people worry about first. In practice it isn't a problem. GAC's UAE material quotes 18.3 km per litre, roughly 5.5 litres per 100 km, and that's a lab figure rather than anything you'll see on Al Khail Road in August. Drive it the way people actually drive here, with the AC on hard and a mix of crawling and cruising, and something in the region of 7 to 8 litres per 100 km is realistic. That works out around 600 km of genuine Dubai range per fill.

For most renters that's one visit to the pump in a week of errands, the school run and a couple of airport trips. Two if you're commuting to Abu Dhabi or leaning on the turbo. Petrol is cheap enough here that the difference costs less than a decent lunch either way. Your daily allowance is 300 km, which no ordinary week of city driving comes close to using, and anything past it is 0.5 AED per kilometre. That only starts to matter on a Hatta day or a run down the coast.

Where the space runs out

At 4.41 metres the Emzoom is a proper compact SUV rather than a hatchback wearing boots, and the 2,650 mm wheelbase buys a back seat that adults can sit in without negotiating. Two grown passengers behind two grown passengers works. Three across the rear is a school run arrangement, not a road trip one.

The boot is where you have to be honest with yourself. 341 litres is average for the class and modest in absolute terms. Two people flying in with a large case each plus cabin bags will fill it to the parcel shelf and see nothing out of the rear window. A week's shopping, a couple of soft bags and a pushchair fit without thought. Fold the rear bench and you get close to 1,271 litres, which covers flat-pack furniture or bulky gear as long as nobody needs the back row. If your arrival at DXB involves four adults and four full-size suitcases, this is the point where we'd move you to a mid-size SUV instead of letting you find out in the car park.

Heat, traffic and the bits nobody mentions

Cabin cooling is the real question in July. The Emzoom has a small volume of air to chill, so recovery from a sun-baked interior is quick once you're moving, and the front vents are working properly within a couple of minutes. Sitting still in a car park with the engine idling is slower going, which is true of every car in this class and price bracket. A windscreen shade is worth the two minutes it takes to fit.

One thing worth knowing before you drive off, and it has nothing to do with the badge on the nose. The gearbox is a 7-speed dual clutch, not a torque converter. It's crisp and quick once you're rolling, and it holds the turbo in its strong mid-range when you need to pass on the E11. In stop-start crawling it can feel very slightly hesitant off the line compared with a Jolion or a ZS. You notice it in the first hour and forget about it by the second, but it's the sort of thing a rental desk should tell you rather than let you wonder about.

Around 160 mm of clearance is enough for speed bumps and mall ramps taken at a sensible pace, though it's a road car and front-wheel drive, so leave soft sand to a proper 4x4. Parking is easy. It's narrow enough for the older Marina towers and the tighter mall decks, and the raised seating helps you judge the corners. Two practical notes: Salik tolls and any RTA fine during your rental are charged to you, and children under four legally need a child seat, which we'll fit on request.

Who should rent it, and who should skip it

Rent it if you want a well-equipped automatic SUV for a Dubai week and you're renting on merit rather than on badge recognition. The Emzoom is quicker and better kitted than most cars at this rate, and the 174 hp turbo means the slip roads and the overtakes never feel like an event.

The unfamiliar-brand hesitation is worth addressing plainly, because we hear it every week. You already rent MG ZS, Geely Coolray and Haval Jolion from us without blinking, and the Emzoom sits in exactly that group. On a seven-day rental the dealer network and the resale value, the two things a badge genuinely buys you, are somebody else's problem. What's left is how the car drives, and on that measure it holds its own against all three.

Skip it if your week involves four adults with airport luggage, or a boot that has to swallow a family holiday. Skip it too if you want the smoothest possible automatic for pure gridlock commuting, where a torque converter car is the calmer choice. For a couple, a small family or a solo driver who wants a modern, quick, easy SUV for the week, this is the one we'd hand over.
