Renters in the economy SUV bracket usually trade away performance for the price, which is what makes the GAC Emkoo 2025 stand out, and we deliver it across Dubai within one to two hours of booking. Under the styled bonnet sits a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol making 252 hp and 400 Nm through an eight-speed automatic, which is genuine hot-hatch territory in a crossover renting at an economy rate. Our argument is that if you want a five-seat SUV that actually moves, with real shove for highway merging and overtaking instead of the wheezy effort most cars at this price give you, the Emkoo is the surprise pick of the class. The honest trade is the coupe roofline, which buys the looks at a small cost to rear headroom and boot height, and that's the decision this page helps you make.
This is the headline and it deserves to be. The 2.0-litre turbo pulls hard from low revs, so pulling out to overtake on the E11 or merging into fast traffic on Sheikh Zayed Road is effortless rather than a gamble. Most economy crossovers run out of breath above 100 km/h, where the Emkoo is still pulling cleanly with plenty in reserve. The eight-speed automatic keeps the engine in its strong band and shifts smoothly in normal driving. You won't drive it flat out in city traffic, but knowing the performance is there changes how the whole week feels: no white-knuckle merges, no planning an overtake three cars ahead. For the rate, this is an unusual amount of engine.

The performance gets the headline, but the cabin is where you spend the week, and the Emkoo doesn't let the side down. A large central touchscreen, digital instruments and soft surfaces where your hands and arms land make it feel a clear class above the rate. The styling carries through from the bodywork to the dashboard rather than stopping at the doors, so it looks and feels expensive from the driver's seat. After a week in a plain economy crossover, the step up is obvious every time you climb in. It's the kind of interior that makes a budget rental not feel like one.
Here's the honest part. At 4.68 metres long the Emkoo has a real footprint, and front passengers get plenty of room. The boot holds around 450 litres, good for the class and enough for a couple of large cases plus soft bags on an airport pickup with people aboard. The compromise is that coupe roofline. It looks sharp, but it shaves rear headroom for taller adults and clips the height of the load area, so very tall boxes won't fit the way they would in a boxier SUV. For two adults and two kids with a week of mall runs and a holiday's luggage, it's fine. For four tall adults on a long trip, the back seat will feel snug, and that's the point where I'd steer you toward something more upright.
A 252 hp turbo asks for a little more fuel than a meek economy engine, especially with the AC fighting 45-degree heat, but the 55-litre tank still stretches comfortably across several days of normal running. A week of city errands and a couple of airport trips won't have you hunting for a station, and a steadier highway run does noticeably better. At mid-size the Emkoo needs a touch of care in the tight bays of older Marina towers and on steep multi-storey ramps, though the camera and high seating make it straightforward. The 160 mm of ground clearance is on the modest side for an SUV, so you slow properly for the most aggressive speed bumps and steepest mall ramps rather than taking them at pace. It's a front-driver and a road car, so leave soft sand to a proper four-wheel drive. The cabin cools well once moving, the front vents hit hard, and a minute with the doors shut brings a sun-soaked interior down to comfortable. A few rules sit with you as the renter: Salik tolls charge to the account as you pass the gantries, RTA fines during the rental pass to you, and children under four need a child seat, which we can add.
Rent the Emkoo 2025 if you want a crossover that drives with real punch and feels more expensive than it rents for, and you're a couple or a small family who'll enjoy the performance and the cabin. For a mix of city driving and confident highway runs, it's a lot of car for the money and far more engaging than the usual economy crossover.
Look elsewhere if you regularly carry four tall adults, need maximum rear headroom, or want to load tall, bulky gear, where a more upright SUV makes better use of the same footprint. And if you want genuine off-tarmac capability, this front-driver isn't it. For the renter who wants pace, polish and value in one package, though, the Emkoo is an easy car to recommend.
