If you want a crossover that looks like it costs a lot more than the rate, the GAC Emkoo 2024 is one of the more interesting cards in the economy SUV deck, and we deliver it across Dubai within one to two hours of booking. The Emkoo's whole pitch is design and equipment for the money: a sharp, coupe-roofed body, a turbocharged petrol engine with real urgency, and a cabin that feels a class above its price. Our argument is that for a couple or a small family who care how the car looks and feels but won't pay premium-badge prices, this is a genuinely tempting week. The honest catch is the sloping roof, which trades a little rear headroom and boot height for the style, and that's the trade you're deciding on.
The Emkoo is a five-seat, five-door compact SUV with front-wheel drive and an automatic gearbox. The engine is a turbocharged petrol, and it's the part that lifts the car above the usual economy crossover: there's proper shove low down, so merging onto Sheikh Zayed Road or pulling out to overtake on the E11 never feels strained. Most cars renting at this rate run out of breath above 100, and the Emkoo simply doesn't. That changes how the week drives more than any spec sheet line.
Inside is where the value really shows. A large central touchscreen, digital instruments, and soft surfaces where your hands land make it feel expensive, and the styling carries through to the cabin rather than stopping at the bodywork.

The turbo engine likes to be driven, and in Dubai's heat with the AC working hard you'll pay a little for the performance, but it stays sensible. The 55-litre tank is the number that matters for a week: even allowing for city traffic and a heavy right foot, it stretches comfortably across several days of normal running, so a week of errands and a couple of airport trips won't have you hunting for a station. On a steadier highway run you'll do noticeably better. The included 250 km a day covers ordinary city life, and beyond that it's 1 AED per kilometre, which only adds up on a long Hatta or Abu Dhabi day.
This is the honest part. At 4.68 metres long the Emkoo has a real footprint, and front passengers get plenty of room. The boot holds around 450 litres, which is good for the class and takes a couple of large cases plus soft bags for an airport pickup with people aboard. The compromise is the coupe roofline. It looks great, but it shaves rear headroom for taller adults and clips the height of the load area, so very tall boxes don't fit the way they would in a boxier SUV. For two adults and two kids with a week of mall runs and a holiday's luggage, it's fine. For four tall adults on a long trip, the back seat will feel snug, and that's where I'd tell you to look at something more upright.
The Emkoo is mid-size, so the tight bays in older Marina towers and steep multi-storey ramps need a touch of care, though the camera and high seating make it straightforward. The 160 mm of ground clearance is on the modest side for an SUV, so you slow properly for the most aggressive speed bumps and the steepest mall ramps rather than taking them at pace, but normal Dubai roads are no trouble. It's a front-driver and a road car, not a dune machine, so leave soft sand to a proper four-wheel drive.
On the heat, the cabin cools well once you're moving. The front vents hit hard, and with the doors shut for a minute a sun-soaked interior comes down to comfortable, which is exactly what you want from May to September. A few rules sit with you as the renter: Salik tolls charge to the account as you pass the gantries, RTA fines during the rental pass to you, and children under four need a child seat, which we can add.
Rent the Emkoo 2024 if you want a stylish, well-equipped crossover that drives with some punch and feels more expensive than it rents for, and you're a couple or a small family who value design and cabin quality. For city driving with the occasional highway run, it's a lot of car for the money and a nicer place to spend the week than most economy crossovers.
Look elsewhere if you regularly carry four tall adults, need maximum rear headroom, or want to load tall, bulky gear, where a more upright SUV makes better use of the same footprint. And if outright capability off the tarmac matters, this isn't that car. For everyone choosing on looks, feel and value, though, the Emkoo is an easy one to recommend.
