Rent Gac Emkoo 2024 in Dubai

The booking we see most on the GAC Emkoo 2024 is the seven-day Dubai stay that has to cover everything: a hotel apartment in Business Bay, the daily crawl to an office, a Friday run down to Abu Dhabi and one airport drop at the end. One car, four jobs, and nobody wants to spend economy money and get an economy driving experience on the E11. That is where this one earns its keep. We deliver it to your door in one to two hours, and we rent it to drivers from 18, which most desks in the city will not do. The catch is at the back, and it is worth understanding before you book.

What you are actually renting

The Emkoo is a mid-size SUV, not a small one. At 4,680 mm long and 1,901 mm wide it sits a full size class above GAC's GS3 Emzoom, with a long bonnet and a roof that starts dropping away from about the middle of the rear door. GAC sells it as a coupe-styled crossover and it looks the part. Sitting in it, the width is what registers first.

The 2024 cars sold here came with one of two turbocharged petrol engines, both driving the front wheels. The smaller is a 1.5 with around 130 kW, about 177 hp, through a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. The larger is a 2.0 with 185 kW, about 228 hp, and 380 Nm, paired to a conventional eight-speed automatic. Either is more than this class of rental usually gives you. We will tell you which one is coming when you book, because they feel different in traffic: the dual-clutch is crisper once rolling and slightly lazy off the line in gridlock, while the eight-speed is smoother in crawl and quicker to kick down when you need to pass.

Nobody at the valet stand will know the badge. That is the honest cost of renting one, and it is the whole reason a car with this much metal and equipment sits at the rate it does.

The roofline decides your luggage

We are not going to quote you a boot figure in litres, because GAC's own sheet and the UAE listings do not agree on one, and a number you cannot rely on is worse than no number. Go by the shape instead, which is what actually decides whether your cases fit.

The tailgate opening is wide but shallow, and the load floor sits high. Two large hard cases go in flat and fill the useful depth, and after that you are stacking upward into a space that narrows as it goes. Tall or boxy items are the problem: a pushchair with the frame up, or a golf bag standing. Lay things down and the Emkoo swallows a lot. Build them up and the glass stops you around two thirds of the way. Fold the rear bench and there is a genuinely long flat floor for anything that likes length over height.

The rear seats fare better than the boot. The 2,750 mm wheelbase gives real legroom, and an adult sits behind an adult without either of them compromising. Headroom is where the styling bites. At 1,670 mm overall with a dropping roof, a passenger over roughly 1.85 metres will find the header rail near their scalp on a longer drive. Two in the back is comfortable. Three across is fine for a school run and tight for a day trip.

Heat, fuel and how far a tank goes

GAC's claimed economy is 12.5 km per litre, roughly 8 litres per 100 km. That is a lab number. With the air conditioning fighting 45 degrees and a turbo that responds to a heavy foot, plan on closer to 10 in real Dubai use. The 55-litre tank then gives you somewhere around 550 km of mixed driving, so one fill covers a normal week of errands and commuting, and two covers a week with an Abu Dhabi trip in it.

Cooling is the July question. This is a big cabin with a lot of glass, and left in the open at midday it gets genuinely hostile. The first thirty seconds after you climb in is hot air on your face, no matter what the car costs. Once moving it settles quickly and evenly, helped by rear vents so the back seat is not left waiting. Park underground where you can, because a wide cabin like this one punishes you harder than most for ignoring that.

On Sheikh Zayed Road and in the car park

This is a comfortable highway car. It sits flat at 120, the cabin stays quiet enough for a phone call, and neither engine runs out of breath when a lane opens up. Overtaking is a single squeeze rather than a plan. The suspension is tuned soft, which suits our expansion joints and means it leans a little more than a firmer European crossover through a fast interchange.

Width is the thing to watch. At 1,901 mm it is wide for older tower and mall bays, and the thick rear pillars plus that sloping glass mean you reverse on the camera rather than the mirror. Around 160 mm of clearance handles residential speed humps and mall ramps taken sensibly. It is front-wheel drive on road tyres, so soft sand is not on the menu regardless of how tall it looks. Salik tolls and any RTA fines during your rental are charged to you, and children under four need a child seat, which we fit on request.

Who we would hand the keys to

Book the Emkoo if you want a mid-size, comfortable, quick SUV for a week of Dubai driving and highway runs, and you would rather have the space and the engine than a badge people recognise. For two adults, or two adults and two children, with sensible luggage, it is one of the better-value cars we hand over. The 300 km included each day covers almost any week in the city, and extra kilometres run at AED 0.5.

Pick something else if the boot is the deciding factor. Four adults flying into DXB with a full-size case each should take a conventional SUV with a square tailgate and an upright rear window, and anyone needing a third row or real sand ability should not be looking at a coupe-roofed crossover at all. The Emkoo trades luggage height for the way it looks and drives. On a week in Dubai, most renters make that trade happily.
