Ford Escape 2023 - start from 258 AED / day

For the school run, the weekly grocery haul and the airport pickup that needs real boot space, the Ford Escape 2023 is an easy car to live with in Dubai, and we deliver it to your door in 1 to 2 hours. It rents here as a compact SUV that asks nothing of you: light steering, a calm automatic, a cabin that seats five without anyone feeling shortchanged. That is the case for this car. It is a sensible everyday crossover rather than a quick one, and the honest question this page answers is whether that suits your week, or whether you should size up or pick something sharper.

Who the Escape actually suits

Think of a family of four with a week of mall runs, beach trips and a couple of airport shuttles. The Escape handles all of it without drama. Two adults up front and two kids behind have room to spare, and nobody is fighting for shoulder space. Where it earns its keep is the ordinary stuff: an upright seating position that makes parking easier, big door openings for fitting a child seat, and a ride that stays comfortable over Dubai's endless speed bumps.

It is front-wheel drive only in this spec, so set expectations. This is a tarmac SUV. It will not take you into soft desert sand, and it is not built for dune tracks. For city, suburb and highway, that is no loss. For Hatta trails or a proper off-road weekend, you want an AWD body-on-frame 4x4 instead.

Specs that matter

Transmission8-speed automatic
DrivetrainFront-wheel drive

Fuel tank56.2 L
Rangeroughly 700 km on a tank
Dimensions (L x W x H)4,575 x 1,882 x 1,676 mm

The numbers tell a consistent story. The 1.5L turbo three-cylinder makes 180 hp, which is enough to keep pace on Sheikh Zayed Road and to overtake when you plan ahead. Push for a hard, instant burst of speed and you will hear the small engine working. It cruises happily at highway limits, but it is not a car that rewards a heavy right foot. If quick is what you want, a turbo-four rival like the Tucson or Sportage feels more eager.

Boot and luggage: does it fit

This is where the Escape pulls ahead of the small hatchbacks people often compare it against. The 375-litre boot swallows a large suitcase plus two soft bags with room left over, which is exactly the DXB or DWC airport scenario that trips up smaller cars. Folding the rear seats opens up around 1,852 litres, enough for a flat-pack run or a full beach-and-camping kit. For most renters, the takeaway is simple: a couple's luggage for a week fits easily, and a family of four can pack without playing Tetris in the car park.

Fuel, range and refuelling

With combined economy around 7.8 L/100km and a 56.2-litre tank, a real week of mixed Dubai driving means you fill up once, maybe twice if you are commuting out to Abu Dhabi. Range lands near 700 km in steady conditions, less if the AC runs flat out in July traffic, which it will. Fuel is cheap here, so the running cost is modest for an SUV this size. It is not a hybrid, so do not expect Corolla Cross frugality, but for the space you get, it is fair.

Heat, AC and the Dubai summer

In the high 40s, the only AC question that matters is how fast it cools a cabin that has been baking in a mall car park. The Escape's system is strong and pulls the front down quickly, within a few minutes on the highest setting. Rear passengers get their own vents at the back of the centre console, so kids in the second row are not left to suffer. Park in the shade where you can, drop the windows for the first thirty seconds to dump the worst of the heat, and the cabin settles fast. For a family car in this climate, the cooling is one of its quiet strengths.

Parking, size and Dubai roads

At 4,575 mm long it is a true compact SUV, not a small one, so Marina towers and tight multi-storey bays need a little care on the turn-in. The raised seating and clear sightlines make it manageable, and most rentals come with a reversing camera to take the guesswork out of a snug bay. Ground clearance of roughly 190 mm clears mall ramps and Dubai's tall speed bumps without scraping, while staying low enough that you step in rather than climb up. On the highway it tracks straight and stays settled for long DXB and DWC airport runs.

A couple of housekeeping facts. Salik tolls and any RTA fines during your rental are billed to you, the renter, so factor the gates on your usual route. Seatbelts are required in every seat, and children under four need a proper child seat, which we can fit on request.

The verdict

Rent the Ford Escape 2023 if you want a comfortable, fuss-free family SUV for city life, highway cruising and airport runs, with a boot that genuinely earns its keep. It is the right call for two to four people who value space and an easy drive over outright pace. If you are chasing sharper performance or strong hybrid economy, a turbo-four crossover will suit you better. If you need a third row for six or seven, or real desert capability, size up to a seven-seater or a proper AWD 4x4 instead.
