Drop the hardtop on a Ferrari Portofino 2022 an hour before sunset and the coast road out toward the marinas turns into the reason people fly here. We deliver this V8 convertible to your door in Dubai with 250 km a day included, enough for a long evening cruise and a morning airport run without watching the meter. The Portofino is the rare Ferrari you can use across a week: a folding-hardtop grand tourer with real pace, two token rear seats, and a boot that swallows more than a two-seater ever could. This page is about whether that mix suits your trip, or whether the heat and the rear-seat reality push you toward a different car.
Under the long bonnet sits a 3.9-litre twin-turbo V8 making 612 hp, sent to the rear wheels through an 8-speed dual-clutch gearbox. It does 0 to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds with a top speed of 320 km/h. Numbers like that matter less in Dubai traffic than the way the car delivers them. The throttle is progressive at low speed, so you can trickle through a hotel forecourt without lurching, then it hardens the moment you're clear and want to overtake on Sheikh Zayed Road.
The headline trick is the roof. A two-piece metal hardtop folds back in about fourteen seconds, so you get a quiet, sealed coupe at midday and an open drop-top at golden hour from the same car. That flexibility is why it suits a Dubai week better than a fixed-roof supercar.

In June and July, open-top driving is an early-morning and after-dark activity, not a midday one. Stop at a light at noon with the roof down and the sun does the rest. The honest window is before nine in the morning and again from late afternoon until late at night, which lines up with the best light for the coast roads anyway. The rest of the day you run it as a coupe.
Roof up, the cabin cools fast. It's a small, sealed space with strong front vents, so even after the car has baked in a hotel car park, the AC pulls it down to comfortable within a few minutes rather than the slow crawl you get in a big SUV. Don't expect rear climate luxury back there. The 2+2 layout means rear passengers get warmth off the front vents and little of their own.
Call the rear seats what they are: occasional perches for a child or a couple of bags, not somewhere an adult sits for the drive to the marina. If you're two people, ignore them and you've got a comfortable grand tourer. Trying to seat four adults, this is the wrong car and a sedan or SUV will make everyone happier.
The boot is the Portofino's quiet advantage over a mid-engined two-seater. Roof up, it takes a couple of soft bags or a medium case plus a holdall, which covers a DXB or DWC airport run with hand luggage and a checked bag for two. Drop the roof and the folded panels eat into that space, so pack the boot before you lower the top, not after. For a luggage-heavy family arrival, fly in, then rent this for the days you want the car rather than the heavy hauling on day one.
Where this car earns its keep is the open highway. On the E11 it sits at a cruise with enormous reserves, and the noise and presence are the point. Mind the speed cameras: enforcement is constant, and every fine and every Salik toll passes to you as the renter, so the gantries add up quietly across a week. Seat belts are mandatory front and rear.
The thing to respect is the nose. At 120 mm of ground clearance the front lip is low, so steep mall ramps, aggressive speed bumps, and sloped car-park entries all want a slow, square approach. The car has a nose-lift system, and you'll use it. In tight multi-storey bays the Portofino is wide at 1938 mm, but visibility roof-up is better than most exotics, and roof-down you can see your corners.
Plan to stop for fuel. At 8.8 km/L combined and an 80-litre tank, a hard week of city driving and coast cruising means filling up every couple of days rather than once. Fuel here is cheap by European standards, so it's the time, not the cost, you're managing.
Rent the Portofino 2022 if you want a Ferrari you can actually use for a few days: a couple touring the coast at sunrise and sunset, someone who wants drop-top drama for the evening and a sealed, cool coupe for the daytime, and a driver who values a usable boot over the last word in lap times. It's the sensible exotic, and that's a compliment.
Look elsewhere in two cases. If you want maximum theatrical impact and you're only ever two people, a hardcore two-seat supercar gives you more drama for the same headlines. And if you need to move four adults and their luggage, skip the 2+2 entirely and rent a luxury SUV. The Portofino does the open-top grand tourer job better than almost anything; it just won't pretend to be a family car.
