Exeed builds three SUV sizes for Dubai, and the TX 2024 sits in the middle of that range. The compact LX is one size down, tight in the back seat for four adults. The seven-seat VX flagship is a size up, built for a full group and priced like it. The TX splits the difference: a five-seat mid-size SUV with a 1.6-litre turbo engine and a proper 450-litre boot, aimed at people who've outgrown the LX but don't need the VX's extra row or running costs. The engine, and how it drives

The TX runs a 1.6-litre turbocharged four making 197 hp and 290 Nm, the same tune Exeed uses in the LX's upper trim, sent through a genuine 7-speed dual-clutch automatic rather than a CVT. That gearbox matters on a Sheikh Zayed Road on-ramp. It picks gears decisively instead of hunting for revs, so merging and overtaking feel deliberate rather than delayed. The catch is that the TX carries more car than the LX for the same output. At 4,780 mm long and around 1.8 tonnes ready to drive, the extra length and weight of a mid-size body ask a bit more of the same engine, so it feels brisk rather than quick, and comfortable rather than eager.

This is front-wheel drive, not the all-wheel-drive setup Exeed keeps for the TX's higher 2.0-litre trims or fits as standard on the VX. Treat the size and the 200 mm of ground clearance as parking and speed-bump insurance, not a grip advantage on sand or a wet ramp. On the open highway the TX is settled and quiet at 120, which is really what most week-long rentals in Dubai ask of it.

Boot, back seat and the daily use

Five seats, not seven, is the trade for sitting between the LX and the VX. The TX's 2,800 mm wheelbase, longer than the LX's, gives the back seat real legroom, so two adults sit comfortably on a full day out, and a third across the bench isn't a squeeze on a shorter run. What it doesn't have is a third row, so if the booking genuinely needs six or seven seats, this isn't that car regardless of how roomy the middle bench feels.

The boot holds 450 litres, more than the LX's 400 and a real improvement for a DXB or DWC run. Two large cases and a couple of soft bags fit with the seats up, past the one-case ceiling a compact crossover leaves you with. It's smaller than the VX's 461 litres behind the third row, but the VX only reaches that number with two seats folded out of use, so for four people travelling with real luggage the TX's figure is arguably the more honest one. Fold the rear seats and the load area opens up enough for flatpack furniture or a couple of bikes.

Running cost, heat and the cabin

Exeed claims 11 to 13 km/L combined for the 1.6T, and as with the LX, that figure is optimistic once the gearbox is shifting under real Dubai traffic and the AC is running flat out through the afternoon. Expect closer to 8 or 9 km/L in practice. The 55-litre tank still returns roughly 440 to 490 km at that real-world rate, enough for a normal week of city errands and an airport run or two between fill-ups.

The rental terms for this car: 250 km included per day, then AED 0.5 for every extra kilometre, so a full day out to Hatta and back is worth checking against the odometer before you leave. Rent the TX if you're four adults, or a small family, who found the LX's back seat too tight but don't want to pay for the VX's extra row and AWD you'd rarely use here. It's the size for a proper airport case load, a genuinely comfortable back seat for two adults on a long drive, and highway manners that don't feel strained merging onto Sheikh Zayed Road.

Look elsewhere if you actually need six or seven seats on a regular basis, since the TX tops out at five with no third row to fall back on. If the trip includes real off-road driving, the front-wheel-drive layout and 200 mm of clearance mean this stays on tarmac, not sand, so a proper 4x4 is the better call. And if it's genuinely one or two people running errands around town, the smaller LX does the job for less and doesn't ask a younger driver to clear as high an age bar.
