You have probably never heard of Exeed, and that is fair. It is Chery's premium arm, on sale in the UAE only since 2021, and the Exeed LX 2024 is one of the newer badges on a Dubai rental page. What it trades for that unfamiliarity is real hardware: a 1.6-litre turbo engine and a proper 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox, not the CVT that most budget crossovers get, in a cabin that reads a class above its rate. We deliver to your door within one to two hours of booking. This page settles whether the badge and the drivetrain are worth the risk for a week in Dubai, or whether you would rather pay for a name you know.
This LX carries the range's stronger engine, a 1.6-litre turbocharged four making 197 hp and around 290 Nm, sent through a genuine 7-speed dual-clutch automatic rather than the CVT that Exeed also fits to the cheaper 1.5T version of this same car. The difference matters more than the numbers suggest. A CVT under load tends to drone and hunt for revs. This gearbox actually shifts, so on a Sheikh Zayed Road on-ramp the LX picks up speed with real intent instead of the rubber-band feel budget SUVs are known for. It will not embarrass a proper performance crossover, but for merging, overtaking a truck and holding 120 comfortably, it does the job a compact SUV is meant to do.
The catch is the drivetrain layout. This is front-wheel drive, not the all-wheel-drive setup Exeed reserves for its range-topping trim, so treat the extra power as confident city and highway driving rather than any kind of grip advantage on sand or a wet ramp. Parts and service history for the badge are also thinner on the ground in the UAE than for a Hyundai or a Kia, which barely registers on a week's rental but is the honest reason the LX still costs less to hire than names you already recognize.
| Spec | Detail |
|---|---|
| Engine | 1.6-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder |
| Power | 197 hp, around 290 Nm |
| Transmission | 7-speed dual-clutch automatic |
| Drive | Front-wheel drive |
| Seats | 5 |
| Boot | 400 litres |
| Fuel tank | 51 litres |
| Fuel economy | 12 to 14 km/L combined (claimed) |
| Range | roughly 450 to 500 km in real city driving |
| Dimensions (L x W x H) | 4,533 x 1,848 x 1,700 mm |
| Ground clearance | 200 mm |
| Colour | Red |
The 400-litre boot is honest compact-SUV space, not a big load bay. For a DXB or DWC pickup, plan on one large case and a soft bag with the rear seats up, not three cases stacked to the roofline. It suits a couple's week or a small family travelling light, not a full house move.
The 2,670 mm wheelbase gives the back seat real knee room for the class, so two adults sit fine on a full day out to the mall or the beach, and the 1,848 mm width keeps a third passenger from feeling squeezed on a shorter run. Ground clearance is where the LX quietly earns its shape. At 200 mm it clears speed bumps, steep mall ramps and the lip into a Marina basement without the scrape a lower sedan gives you. Read that height as parking insurance rather than a desert invitation, though. It is still front-wheel drive on road tyres, so Hatta's gravel tracks are not the plan.
Exeed quotes 12 to 14 km/L combined for the 1.6-litre turbo, and that figure is worth discounting once the gearbox is making quick, decisive shifts and the AC is running non-stop through a Dubai afternoon. Expect closer to 9 or 10 km/L in real driving. The 51-litre tank still gets you roughly 450 to 500 km at that real-world rate, which for most weeks of city errands and airport runs means one stop at the pump, maybe two if you are commuting in from further out daily.
The rental terms belong to this specific car: 249 km a day, and anything past that runs AED 0.5 per kilometre, so a long day trip out of the city is worth checking against the odometer before you leave. Salik tolls and any RTA fines during the rental are the renter's to settle, same as any car here, and you will need to be 21 to take the keys, younger than several rivals in this class ask for.
On heat, a compact cabin works in the LX's favor. There is less air to cool than in a mid-size SUV, so the front vents pull a car that has baked at 45 degrees down to comfortable within a few minutes of climbing back in. The dash leans on a wide twin-screen layout that takes a moment to learn on day one, but the actual climate controls are simple enough that you are not hunting through menus while the AC catches up.
Rent the LX if a properly geared 1.6-turbo and a dual-clutch gearbox matter more to you than a badge everyone already recognizes, and if 197 hp genuinely appeals over the softer, cheaper 1.5T engine Exeed also offers on this same body. A couple or small family doing malls, the school run and an airport pickup gets everything they need, and 200 mm of clearance makes daily parking and speed bumps a non-issue.
Size up, or pick a mainstream crossover, if you need real all-wheel-drive traction, want a badge with a longer UAE service record, or plan on carrying more luggage than one case and a bag can hold. None of that changes what the LX does well for a week of ordinary Dubai driving. It drives like a more expensive car than its badge suggests, and that is worth more than brand recognition once you are actually behind the wheel.
