Almost everyone who books the Exeed LX 2024 asks us the same thing when we call to confirm the drop-off: what exactly is an Exeed? Fair question, and we answer it a few times a week. It is Chery's upmarket brand, it has been sold and serviced in the UAE for years now, and we rent it in Dubai with doorstep delivery inside one to two hours. Once that is out of the way, the thing worth knowing about this particular SUV is how little road it takes up. It looks bigger in photos than it feels from the driver's seat, and that is the whole case for renting one.
At 4,520 mm long and 1,848 mm wide, the LX is shorter than a Toyota RAV4 and barely wider than a Corolla. That matters more in Dubai than almost any other number on the sheet. Multi-storey bays in older Marina towers and the tighter mall decks are cut for smaller cars than the ones people actually drive now, and plenty of mid-size SUVs end up with a wing mirror hanging over the line. This one slides in without the three-point shuffle.
The raised seating is the real reason to pick it over a sedan at similar money. You sit high enough to see over the traffic ahead on a clogged Sheikh Zayed slip road, and you get SUV ride height for the speed bumps in residential compounds and the steeper mall ramps, where a low sedan nose scrapes. Rear visibility over your shoulder is average, so you will lean on the reversing camera when backing into a bay between two Land Cruisers. That is normal for the shape.
Luggage is the honest limit. The boot holds 400 litres, which takes two large hard cases if you stack rather than lay them flat, or one large case plus a stroller and the week's shopping. It is a competent boot for a family of four doing city duty. Four adults arriving from DXB with a case each will be putting the fourth bag on the back seat.

The 1.5 turbo makes 144 horsepower and 230 Nm, and it drives the front wheels only. In town that is plenty. The turbo does its work low in the rev range, so pulling away from lights and slotting into a gap on Al Khail feels effortless enough that you stop thinking about it.
The highway is where you need to plan a little. Merging onto the E11 at rush hour, the LX gets to traffic speed without drama, but a full-throttle overtake at 120 with four people and their bags on board takes longer than you would expect from something that looks this substantial. Leave yourself more room than you would in a bigger-engined SUV and it is a calm, quiet cruiser. Push it hard and it gets noisy and asks for patience. Front-wheel drive also means this is a road car, so treat any soft sand as off limits and leave the dune tracks to a proper 4x4.
Running cost lands well. The claimed 7.0 litres per 100 km will drift closer to 8 in real Dubai use, with the AC working and the traffic doing what it does, and the 51-litre tank then gives you roughly 600 km of genuine range. On our 300 km a day allowance that is comfortably a couple of days between fills, and most week-long renters stop at a pump twice. Anything past the daily 300 km is charged at AED 0.5 per kilometre, which is worth knowing if you are commuting to Abu Dhabi rather than staying inside the city.
Small cabin, decent airflow, and rear vents fitted. Parked in open sun at 45 degrees the interior will be brutal for the first minute, same as every car in Dubai, but the front vents pull hard and the compact cabin volume means it reaches comfortable faster than a big seven-seater does. Two or three minutes of driving with the fan up and it is fine, including in the back, which is not something you can say about every car in this price bracket.
Two habits help. Drop the windows for the first thirty seconds so the superheated air leaves instead of getting recirculated, and park nose-out under cover where you can. Shaded parking is worth the extra walk in July and August.
On the routine Dubai rules: Salik tolls and any RTA fines during your rental come back to you, belts are mandatory in every seat, and children under four need a proper child seat, which we fit on request. We rent to drivers from 18 with a year of licence history, so this is a realistic option for a younger renter who would be turned away at most desks.
Rent the LX if you are one or two people, or a small family, doing city driving with a few airport runs, and you want the visibility and ride height of an SUV without paying the parking tax that comes with a big one. It is well equipped for the money, the cabin is a nicer place to sit than the rate suggests, and the small footprint genuinely makes daily life easier in older parts of the city.
Size up if you are carrying four adults with full luggage, spending real time at highway speed between emirates, or planning anything involving sand. A larger crossover or a mid-size sedan will suit you better. As for the unfamiliar badge, it is a fair worry and we would rather you asked, but this is a warrantied, dealer-supported car in the UAE, not an import curiosity. Ours go out and come back without fuss, and every one of them carries 24/7 roadside cover for the week you have it.
