Dodge Journey 2025 - start from 209 AED / day

If you want a crossover that swallows a family's week of shopping and airport bags without the rate or thirst of a full-size SUV, the Dodge Journey 2025 is worth a look, and yes, we rent it across Dubai with delivery to your door. Pay how you like when we hand it over: cards, cash, Apple Pay, Google Pay, bank transfer, even crypto. That flexibility is the easy part. The real question is whether this badge-on-a-budget crossover suits your trip, because the Journey sits in an awkward middle, roomier and cheaper than most SUVs, but not the seven-seat people-mover the old Journey name might lead you to expect. Here is who it fits and who should look elsewhere.

What you are actually renting

This is a five-seat, two-row crossover, not the old seven-seat Journey. The current car shares its bones with a GAC-built platform sold through Stellantis, so it carries the Dodge badge over value-brand underpinnings. Treat it as a spacious five-seater with a big boot, and it makes sense. Expect a third row, and you will be disappointed, so families who genuinely need seven seats should size up to a proper SUV.

Under the bonnet is a 1.5-litre turbo four producing 156 hp, paired to a six-speed automatic driving the front wheels. That is enough for a loaded school run and comfortable highway cruising, not for spirited overtaking with five aboard and the AC working hard. On Sheikh Zayed Road it holds 120 without fuss. Ask it to surge past a truck on an incline with a full cabin, and you feel the modest output.

Space, boot and whether your family fits

The cabin is the Journey's strongest card. Two adults up front and three across the back genuinely fit, including child seats, and headroom is generous thanks to that tall 1691 mm roofline. For school runs, mall trips and ferrying relatives in from the airport, five people travel without anyone calling shotgun out of self-defence.

The boot is where it earns the rental. With five seats up you get a deep, square load bay that takes a large case and a couple of soft bags side by side, or a full week's grocery haul and a folded pushchair. Drop the rear seats and it turns into a flat van-like space for flat-pack furniture or moving day. If your test is two large cases plus a buggy plus a cooler box for the beach, the Journey passes where most crossovers in this price band start playing luggage Tetris.

The honest limit is people, not cargo. Six of you on an airport run means someone follows in a taxi. That is the line where you stop saving money on the Journey and start needing a real seven-seater.

Fuel, refuelling and real Dubai economy

The 55-litre tank and a quoted range near 715 km sound generous, and on a steady highway run it gets close. Around town it does not. Dubai driving is air-con-on, stop-start, traffic-light city work, and a turbo four hauling a tall crossover in 45-degree heat drinks more than the brochure figure. Plan on filling up roughly once a week for normal city use, more if you commute Marina to Abu Dhabi. Petrol here is cheap, so the cost stays low either way, but do not expect hybrid frugality from this engine.

Heat, parking and Dubai roads

Dubai's summer is the real test of any rental, and the Journey's large glass area heats a parked cabin fast. The air-con is conventional, not luxury climate, but the front vents pull a baking cabin down to bearable within a few minutes of driving, and rear passengers get their own vents, which matters with kids in the back on a July afternoon.

At 4695 mm long and 1878 mm wide it is mid-size, not bulky. Mall multi-storey bays and Marina ramps are manageable, though it is wider than a small hatch, so tight valet stacks and end-of-row pillars want a bit of care. The 194 mm of ground clearance clears Dubai's aggressive speed bumps and steep car-park ramps without scraping. This is a road crossover, front-wheel drive only, so leave the soft sand and dune tracks to a real 4x4.

A few rental basics apply here as everywhere. Salik tolls run to your account, and any RTA fines during your rental are passed on to you, so watch your speed on the E11. Seat belts are required in every seat, and children under four need a proper child seat, which we can fit if you ask. Airport pickups at DXB or DWC are no problem, and the Journey's space makes it a sensible choice for arrivals with a pile of luggage.

Who should rent it, and who should not

Rent the Journey if you are a family of four or five who wants SUV-sized boot space and a high seating position without paying SUV money, and you mostly drive city and highway. For that brief it is genuinely good value, comfortable, roomy and easy to live with for a week.

Look elsewhere in two cases. If you regularly carry six or seven people, skip it and book a true seven-seat SUV, because the Journey simply does not have the seats. And if it is just two of you doing city errands and the odd airport run, a smaller five-seat crossover will be cheaper to rent and easier to park, with boot space you will rarely miss. The Journey makes the most sense for the family in the middle, the one that needs the space but not the seventh seat.
