A mid-size SUV with a 580-litre boot for an economy-class rate is the quiet bargain in the Citroen C5 2024, and that's the reason to book one over a smaller crossover. We deliver the C5 Aircross across Dubai with 250 km a day included, enough for an Abu Dhabi round trip without watching the odometer. The pitch here is space and value rather than badge or sharp handling. You get a roomy five-seat cabin and one of the bigger boots in the class, at a price that usually buys you something a size down. If you're landing at the airport with a week of luggage, or carrying a family and their gear, that room is what you're really paying for.
Start with the number that decides most family rentals. At 580 litres the C5 Aircross boot is large for the class, swallowing two big suitcases plus a couple of soft bags without anyone folding a seat or holding a holdall on their lap. For a DXB or DWC pickup with a full week's luggage, that's the difference between a relaxed loadout and a game of Tetris.
Fold the rear seats and the floor opens to roughly 1630 litres, room for a flat-pack run or a folded pushchair with seats still up for three. Four adults each with a full hard case will want to drop part of the rear bench, but for most trips you simply won't have to. Against the tighter compact crossovers we rent at a similar price, that extra room is the whole argument.

Five adults fit without anyone complaining, which isn't a given in this bracket. Two up front have plenty of space, and the rear bench is genuinely usable: three across works for kids or a shorter run, two are comfortable for a long day out. The rear seats also split and slide on this car, so you can trade legroom for cargo when a trip needs more of one than the other. For a family of four with a week of mall runs and a weekend bag each, there's room to spare.
Under the bonnet is a 1.6-litre turbo making 175 hp through an automatic, driving the front wheels. That's enough for confident, relaxed progress in normal Dubai use. It pulls away cleanly and has the mid-range to overtake on Sheikh Zayed Road without a long run-up, with around 8 seconds to 100, brisk for a comfort-first SUV. The 52-litre tank paired with a combined figure near 7.5 L/100km gives realistic range for a week, though heavy AC use and stop-start traffic will pull that down. Plan to refuel once, maybe twice, across a normal week, and petrol here is cheap enough that the bigger cost to track is Salik, which passes to you along with any RTA fines.
Dubai summers push past 45 degrees, and the question every renter actually has is how fast a baking cabin cools after a stint in an open car park. The C5 Aircross does fine. The front vents pull hard once you're moving, and rear vents mean back-seat passengers aren't left to suffer. Give it a couple of minutes on full with the windows briefly cracked, and a parked oven comes down to bearable, then comfortable. Park in shade where you can and it's quicker still. Don't expect instant cold the second you sit down, because nothing in this range delivers that in July.
The C5 Aircross is tuned soft, and around Dubai that pays off where you least expect it. Residential speed bumps, broken tarmac near roadworks and the lips into older multi-storey car parks all get rounded off rather than thumped through, so passengers barely register them. The generous 230 mm of ground clearance clears bumps and steep ramp edges that catch out lower crossovers. The trade is body roll: take a fast roundabout or a sweeping interchange with enthusiasm and it leans and floats. Drive it smoothly, the way it wants to be driven, and it's one of the more relaxing things you can rent at this size. At 4.5 metres long it slots into standard mall and tower bays with room to spare, and the high seating makes tight ramps easy to judge.
Rent the C5 2024 if space and value are what you're after: families landing with full luggage, or anyone who wants mid-size SUV room without paying mid-size SUV money. The big boot, the usable rear seats and the cushioned ride are the reasons to choose it, and the economy rate makes it an easy call.
Skip it if you want a sharp, eager SUV that feels keen through corners, because the soft setup deliberately isn't that. If you need a third row or real off-road ability for the dunes, this front-wheel-drive five-seater isn't the tool, and a seven-seater or a proper 4x4 makes more sense. But for a roomy, comfortable week of Dubai driving at a price that undercuts the obvious crossovers, the C5 Aircross is a smart pick to have parked at your door.
