The Citroen C4 2024 we rent in Dubai runs the newer Hybrid 136 powertrain, a 1.2-litre turbo three paired with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system, and that quietly makes it one of the most economical cars in its bracket on a week of city driving. We deliver it to your door anywhere in Dubai, usually within one to two hours. The pitch is honest: if you want a comfortable five-door that sips fuel, glides over bad tarmac and never fights you in traffic, the C4 hybrid is an easy car to live with. It's not quick and it's not a load-hauler, and we'll be straight about both. But for the renter who measures a good week by how little hassle the car caused, it's a strong pick.
The Hybrid 136 mates the 1.2 turbo petrol to a small electric motor built into a six-speed dual-clutch gearbox, drawing on a 48-volt battery under the driver's seat. In stop-start Dubai traffic the system does its best work, creeping and pulling away on electric power for short stretches and recovering energy under braking, so the petrol engine sits idle more often than you'd think. Citroen quotes roughly a fifth less fuel than the old non-hybrid 1.2, and in real city use you'll see consumption in the region of 5 to 6 litres per 100 km. On a 50-litre tank that's several hundred kilometres between fills, so most renters top up once across a week. With fuel cheap here, the running cost stays genuinely low.
Around town the powertrain is well judged. The turbo pulls from low revs, the hybrid assist smooths the gaps, and the dual-clutch shuffles ratios cleanly in the crawl that fills most Dubai driving. Ask for a hard, sudden overtake and the three-cylinder gets a little vocal, and reaching 100 km/h takes the better part of ten seconds. For E11 cruising and the odd DXB or DWC airport run that's fine, as long as you leave a bit of room when you pull out rather than expecting an instant surge. The ride is the real selling point. Citroen tunes the suspension soft, so speed bumps, scarred tarmac and the broken edges near building sites get smoothed off before they reach you. After a week of it, firmer rivals feel needlessly busy.

Every rental here lives or dies on how fast the cabin recovers after baking in a car park. The C4's air conditioning is a sensible single-zone system with strong front-vent flow, and it pulls a hot cabin down to comfortable within a few minutes of driving with the fan up. Like most cars in this class it has no dedicated rear vents, so back-seat passengers wait a touch longer on the worst afternoons. Park in shade where you can and drop the windows for the first half-minute to dump the trapped heat, and you'll be cool before the first roundabout. It's an effective everyday system rather than a luxury one, which matches the rest of the car.
The boot holds 380 litres, which swallows two large suitcases or one big case plus a couple of soft bags, enough for a two-person airport pickup. Fold the rear seats and you free up roughly 1,250 litres for a flat-pack run or bulky shopping. For a couple and a week of errands it's comfortable. Load it with four adults and four hard cases and it gets tight, and that's where you'd size up to a sedan. At 4.35 metres long it drops into multi-storey bays and the tight ramps under Marina towers without drama, and the light steering pays you back on U-turns and reverse parks. The 156 mm of ground clearance clears aggressive speed humps and mall ramp lips without scraping, though it's a road car, so keep it off soft sand and rough tracks.
As the renter you cover Salik tolls at the gantries and any RTA fines on the car during your hire, so keep an eye on tagged routes and the limits. Seat belts are mandatory in every seat, and children under four need a proper child seat, which we can fit on request. None of this is unusual for Dubai, but it's worth knowing before you set off.
Rent the C4 2024 if you want a comfortable, frugal car for a week of city errands, school runs and the odd highway hop, with one or two people and a couple of cases. The mild-hybrid economy and the soft ride make it one of the lowest-friction cars we hand over, and it's especially well suited to anyone watching their fuel spend.
Look elsewhere if you regularly carry four adults with full luggage, or if you want real shove on the highway. For that, a roomier sedan or a punchier crossover is the smarter pick. But for the renter who values an easy, economical week over outright pace, the C4 hybrid is hard to beat at this end of the lot.
