Citroen quotes around 8.5 seconds to 100 km/h, quick enough to merge without much planning, and a top speed comfortably past what any of us will use on E11.

Front-wheel drive is the only layout offered here, and on Dubai's smooth, dry tarmac that's not a limitation worth losing sleep over. What you notice most is that the C4 drives lighter and keener than its SUV-flavoured looks suggest, closer in feel to a warm hatchback than to a Kicks or a Seltos. If you're after genuine off-road ground clearance or the reassurance of all-wheel grip for a Hatta trip, that's not what this car is built for. Judge it as a comfortable, quick-enough city and highway car and it earns its keep.

Boot, back seat and the daily load

The coupe roofline that makes the C4 look sharp from the outside costs a little at the back. Boot capacity is 380 litres, enough for one large case and a couple of soft bags, but a family of four heading to the airport with the usual pile of hard-shell suitcases will be packing tight or leaving one behind. Rear headroom follows the same trade-off. Two adults fit fine, and a third squeezed in for a short mall run is fine too, but taller rear passengers will feel the sloping glass close in above their heads on a longer drive, something a boxier crossover avoids entirely.

At 1,800 mm wide and 4,360 mm long, it's a genuinely compact footprint that threads through a tight Marina ramp or a packed multi-storey without the wide-mirror anxiety of a bigger SUV. Ground clearance sits around 150 mm, enough to clear speed bumps and mall entrance ramps cleanly, but well short of a real SUV's clearance and nowhere near enough for sand. Read the badge as economy SUV if you like, but pack and drive it like a tall, good-looking hatchback and you won't be disappointed.

Size up if you're a family of four with real suitcases, want three-across rear seating that doesn't pinch on headroom, or need genuine ground clearance for anything rougher than a mall ramp. A Kicks, Seltos or Creta will swallow more bags and shrug off a rutted track more easily, even if none of them turn heads on the way to the mall. The C4 earns its place with the driver who rates style and a keen drivetrain over outright practicality, not the family that needs every inch of a boxy crossover's cargo bay.
