If you want one automatic that handles a week of school runs, grocery hauls and the occasional airport pickup without costing much to feed, the Citroen C4 2022 is a sensible all-rounder, and we'll have one fuelled and outside your door in Dubai within one to two hours. This is the practical pick in the small five-door class: a roomy-enough, soft-riding hatch with a turbo engine and a smooth automatic. It won't thrill a keen driver, but for the everyday business of getting a small family around the city it does the job with very little fuss. Here's where it fits and where it doesn't.
Most renters in this class are juggling people and stuff, so start there. The C4 seats five, with enough room across the back for two child seats or a couple of adults on shorter trips. The boot holds 380 litres, which is honest mid-class space: two large suitcases, or one big case plus the soft bags and pushchair that a family trip actually involves. Drop the rear seats and you open up around 1,250 litres for a flat-pack collection or a big grocery run.
The limit is predictable. Four adults with four hard cases will find it tight, and if every seat is full every day, a sedan or a larger crossover will serve you better. For two adults and one or two kids, which is most of who rents this car, it's the right size.
Under the bonnet sits a 1.2-litre turbo petrol making 136 hp, paired with an eight-speed automatic driving the front wheels. It's a small engine doing sensible work, and around town it's well matched to the job. The turbo wakes up early, so the car feels lively pulling away and slotting into gaps, and the gearbox is unobtrusive in the stop-start crawl of city traffic.
Ask for a hard, sudden overtake on Sheikh Zayed Road and the three-cylinder note rises and the response softens, so plan your moves on the E11 rather than relying on an instant kick. At a steady cruise it's quiet and relaxed, and an airport run to DXB or DWC is no trouble. The other half of the deal is the ride, which Citroen tunes deliberately soft, so the car flattens speed bumps and patched tarmac that would jolt a firmer rival.
A car left in a Dubai car park in summer becomes an oven, so cabin recovery matters more than almost any spec. The C4's air conditioning pulls a baking interior down to comfortable within a few minutes once you're moving, with strong front vents doing the heavy lifting. Back-seat passengers wait slightly longer on the hottest afternoons, as there are no dedicated rear outlets, so on a school run it's worth getting the fan going before the kids climb in. Park in shade where you can and vent the trapped heat through open windows for the first half-minute, and the cabin is comfortable before you reach the first junction.
At 4.35 metres long the C4 is easy to place. Tight multi-storey bays, the steep ramps under Marina towers and busy mall car parks are all manageable, and the light steering makes U-turns and reverse parks simple. Ground clearance of 156 mm clears aggressive speed humps and mall ramp lips without scraping. It rides a touch taller than a plain hatch, but it's still a road car, so keep it to sealed surfaces rather than soft sand.
The 50-litre tank and the efficient turbo keep fuel costs low. Expect around 6 litres per 100 km on a steady mix, rising toward 7 or 8 in heavy city traffic with the AC working hard, which still means a tank covers several hundred kilometres. On a normal week you'll fill up once. Fuel here is cheap, so the C4 is genuinely inexpensive to run for a week of errands.
A couple of Dubai rules are worth stating plainly. You pay Salik tolls as you pass the gantries, and any RTA fines during your rental pass to you, so watch the limits and the tagged routes. Children under four legally need a child seat, which we can fit on request.

Rent the C4 2022 if you want a no-drama automatic for everyday Dubai life: a small family, a week of city running, the odd highway trip, and a budget that likes a car cheap to fuel. It's roomy enough, easy to park, comfortable over bumps and quick to deliver, and that combination covers most of what a week's rental actually demands.
Skip it if you need to seat four adults with full luggage day after day, or if you want a car that feels eager when you push it. For those, size up to a sedan or pick a sharper crossover. But as a practical, low-cost all-rounder for a family week, the C4 is an easy car to recommend.
