The headline for this car is how little it asks of you week to week. The 1.2-litre turbo three-cylinder makes 110 hp and drives the front wheels through an automatic, and it's tuned for efficiency rather than thrills. In real Dubai city use you'll see somewhere around 9 to 10 km per litre, and on a 45-litre tank that's a usable range past 750 km. For a normal week of errands, mall runs and a couple of airport hops, you fill up once. Petrol here is cheap to begin with, so a frugal car like this keeps the trip cost genuinely small.

That's the practical case. The turbo wakes up early, so around town the C3 feels livelier than its modest power figure suggests, and the automatic shuffles ratios without drama in stop-start traffic.

On the highway, and where it runs short

The C3 cruises happily at the limit on Sheikh Zayed Road and the E11, and it'll complete a planned overtake without fuss. Ask for a sudden, hard surge with the AC working and a passenger or two aboard, and the three-cylinder gets vocal and the pace stays modest. This isn't a car that pins you to the seat. For a solo driver or a couple mixing city and the odd highway run, it's well judged. If your week is long, fast E11 stints with a full load, a punchier rival will suit you better.

Boot, seats and whether your luggage fits

The boot holds 315 litres, which is honest small-hatch space. For one or two people it's plenty: a medium case and a couple of soft bags, or a full week of grocery and mall hauls. A DXB or DWC airport pickup for two with sensible luggage works fine. The back seat takes two adults for short hops or kids comfortably; three across is a squeeze. The line where the C3 runs out is four adults with four hard cases, and that's the point to size up to a larger crossover or a sedan with a proper boot.

Heat, AC and the summer test

Dubai summers sit in the high 40s, and any car parked in the sun turns into an oven. The C3's small cabin helps, since there's less air to cool. The air conditioning brings a baking interior down to comfortable within a few minutes, with strong front vents doing the work, so you're cool before the first roundabout. Like most cars in this class there are no rear vents, so back-seat passengers rely on cold air pushed forward. For the short city trips the C3 is built around, that's no real issue. Park in shade where you can and crack the windows for the first half-minute.

Look elsewhere if you regularly carry four adults with full luggage, where the boot and back seat get tight, or if you want strong highway pace and a hushed cruise, where the 110 hp three-cylinder shows its limits. Size up to a crossover or a sedan in those cases. But for a renter whose week is built around the city and a low bill, the C3 is a likeable, low-fuss choice.
